Will World War 3 Happen?

The Soviet Union is in its prime. Its borders are never satisfied; always hungering for more territory, always hungering for the West. In this hypothetical 1953, the Soviet Union greenlights their plan to conquer Europe and the West. In the matter of only seven days, the Soviet Union plans to reach the river Rhine in Germany, dropping strategic atomic weapons whilst doing so. In reality, this battle strategy was declassified by the CIA. But in our hypothetical situation, Operation Seven Days to the River Rhine is a go.

How would the Soviet Union accomplish such a feat? Firstly, they would send several armies (which is the modern militaristic term for a legion) and use guerilla warfare tactics to make it to Germany. Since we are in 1953, the Eastern Bloc is in full swing, so the Russians can start their assault from Eastern Germany and Czechoslovakia. The Russians would rush the west quick and fast, much like the Blitzkrieg strategy the Germans used in WW2 -- but unlike the original Blitzkrieg, this one would implement nuclear warheads. These strategically placed warheads would drop in places such as Vienna, Verona, Padua, Stuttgart, Munich, Roskilde, and Espjerg. By bombing these areas, the Soviet Union deemed that these places would fall due to low morale. Soldiers would rush around these areas to the River Rhine, where the Soviet Union hoped the democratic countries in Europe would surrender. What about France and Great Britain, the nuclear powers of Europe? The Soviets would bomb places outside of these countries, hoping that they choose appeasement over war. The Soviets would then take both countries by surprise, bombing both of these areas in quick succession. The armies waiting on the River Rhine would then turn their attention to these countries, sweeping through them with incredible speed. Using drugs the KGB developed, they could be on the move for a very long time.

After this fateful week, Europe would have fallen and the Soviet Union would have complete puppet control over Europe.

The Soviet Union declared that the war would be over in seven days. This Operation does not go into detail about the invasion of the United States, but many hypothesize that classified U.S.S.R. documents describe such an Operation. Many nickname this Operation as Operation Red Dawn, which alludes to communism rising on the horizon and setting across the entire earth.

This Operation ties in today, where Russia’s ambitions in Ukraine are starting to look more like their former self. Will Russia use nuclear warheads to end the war in Ukraine? I believe that this Operation is far too ambitious -- one that is meant to be used when Russia has the entire Bloc behind them. Today, it would be highly unlikely that this strategy would even be considered.

    • I agree with you, but then again, Putin is borderline crazy. He wants to reunited the Bloc no matter what, and his ambition may be what starts the war.

  • I definitely think there will be no war because there are so many countries that are against Russia and there would be no possible way to win. If Russia bombed the U.S. then the U.S. would send so many nukes to Russia it wouldn't even be funny. If there was a war with Russia, I wouldn't be surprised if they used nukes.

    • It is unlikely that a full-scale war will break out. If Russia has enough ambition to try and push past Ukraine, then I believe that this may put NATO on edge (especially if Russia invades a NATO member state).

  • I really hope that WWIII doesnt happen. It really is jut too many I's. It would be terrible for our generation because of the drafts. We would really get to see if our generaation is "soft."  If Russia and China team up it'll be a whole world of hurt.

    • I agree with you. If Russia and China decide to ally together, it could be setting the stage for another World War. I really hope that world leaders make decisions that are in the best interest of humankind.

  • I do not think that World War III is going to happen any time soon. I think that Russia's goal is not to start a war, and they'll back down if push comes to shove. They know they have absolutely no chance in fighting a war against everyone that would be allied against them.

    • I believe that you are right. They just want to annex Ukraine back into their glory days of the Bloc and the Warsaw pact. I feel like Russia is also intimidated because former Warsaw pact countries are now apart of NATO.

  • I do not believe Russia will start World War III.  They have little to gain and a whole lot to lose.  The whole world is pretty much against their current actions in the Russo-Ukrainian, so they probably wouldn't purposefully start a massive world war.  I doubt they will use nuclear weapons either, because that would definitely get the attention of major world powers.

    • It would be a very quick war for them...also with the policy of mutually assured destruction, I feel like they would not risk going to war. Putin is a wild-card however, because his decision making is very poor.

  • I think that there's a possibility of Russia starting World War III. I think what they are doing by invading Ukraine is really bad and they shouldn't be doing this. I think that it's kinda sad that no one is fighting with them. I think is scary to think that Russia can use nuclear bombs.
