Will World War 3 Happen?

The Soviet Union is in its prime. Its borders are never satisfied; always hungering for more territory, always hungering for the West. In this hypothetical 1953, the Soviet Union greenlights their plan to conquer Europe and the West. In the matter of only seven days, the Soviet Union plans to reach the river Rhine in Germany, dropping strategic atomic weapons whilst doing so. In reality, this battle strategy was declassified by the CIA. But in our hypothetical situation, Operation Seven Days to the River Rhine is a go.

How would the Soviet Union accomplish such a feat? Firstly, they would send several armies (which is the modern militaristic term for a legion) and use guerilla warfare tactics to make it to Germany. Since we are in 1953, the Eastern Bloc is in full swing, so the Russians can start their assault from Eastern Germany and Czechoslovakia. The Russians would rush the west quick and fast, much like the Blitzkrieg strategy the Germans used in WW2 -- but unlike the original Blitzkrieg, this one would implement nuclear warheads. These strategically placed warheads would drop in places such as Vienna, Verona, Padua, Stuttgart, Munich, Roskilde, and Espjerg. By bombing these areas, the Soviet Union deemed that these places would fall due to low morale. Soldiers would rush around these areas to the River Rhine, where the Soviet Union hoped the democratic countries in Europe would surrender. What about France and Great Britain, the nuclear powers of Europe? The Soviets would bomb places outside of these countries, hoping that they choose appeasement over war. The Soviets would then take both countries by surprise, bombing both of these areas in quick succession. The armies waiting on the River Rhine would then turn their attention to these countries, sweeping through them with incredible speed. Using drugs the KGB developed, they could be on the move for a very long time.

After this fateful week, Europe would have fallen and the Soviet Union would have complete puppet control over Europe.

The Soviet Union declared that the war would be over in seven days. This Operation does not go into detail about the invasion of the United States, but many hypothesize that classified U.S.S.R. documents describe such an Operation. Many nickname this Operation as Operation Red Dawn, which alludes to communism rising on the horizon and setting across the entire earth.

This Operation ties in today, where Russia’s ambitions in Ukraine are starting to look more like their former self. Will Russia use nuclear warheads to end the war in Ukraine? I believe that this Operation is far too ambitious -- one that is meant to be used when Russia has the entire Bloc behind them. Today, it would be highly unlikely that this strategy would even be considered.

Do you believe Russia will start World War III?

Do you think Russia will use nukes in the Russo-Ukrainian war?

    • The war crimes Russia has committed are not something to gloss over, but I believe that World War III is not on our horizion (as long as Putin does not use nuclear weapons). Mutually Assured Destruction scares him enough that I believe it will keep him in tow until the war ends.

  • I don't think Russia's actions have calalized a third world war. I Don't think Russia will use nukes either. The last thing they need is a bunch of countries coming after them for war crimes. I don't think this opperation would work out. They a;ready have deminishing support from their own citizens.

    • Russia may use nukes. They have put their forces on high alert, virtually DEFCON 2. I really hope that Russia realizes the mess they got into is going to be difficult to get out of.

  • I don't think that Russia will start WWIII. Although Putin has done unpredictable things in the past, I don't think he would go as far to start another war, knowing his country isn't in the best state. I also don't think that Putin would use nukes against Ukraine because that could potentially start a war that he wouldn't want.

    • I agree. Our best bet is that Putin continues the war traditionally and does not resort to nuclear means (strategic or not).

  • I don't think any country really wants World War III, so I doubt Russia will initiate war. Each country has extremely advanced their war weapons, and we all have a lot more knowledge and resources in this area in contrast to prior years/wars. Russia also has to know this, and with their conditions now, it would be stupid to start a war.

    • Russia will most likely not start World War III, but Putin has been very rash as of late. With both sides understanding Mutually Assured Destruction, I feel like it would be unlikely that a war would happen.

  • I don't think Russia is stupid enough to start World War III. Their economy is already in shambles; and I doubt they could keep treading water for much longer in such conditions.

    • I don't know. Putin has been making very rash decisions as of late. He evidently doesn't care that their economy is crashing because he can just continue to send more and more troops into Ukraine under the the assumption of propaganda.

  • I don't think the conflict of Russia will be a WW3. No country wants a war because of the sources and nuclear bombs people have. Oil is getting more crucial day by day and a World War 3 would be a disaster for every single country whether if they are in the war or not.
