Why should we fund Nasa more?

As of now, the US spends about 0.5% of its budget on NASA. But why should we do that when we could spend that money on more important things? In Nasa's beginnings, it was created to compete with Russia back in the 60’s call the space race. However, the space race ended years ago so the incentive for the government to fund Nasa has been leaning. I think that the government should spend more money on Nasa because It creates new jobs, Makes new tech for humanity, and they will be humanity’s “lifeboat.”

Whenever you take a photo on your phone. You are using a piece of tech from Nasa. A lot of everyday things you use were created by Nasa and you don't even know it. We use everyday items for granted but have you ever thought about who invented the things you have. Because Nasa is apart of the government they share everything that they create. So when the government pays Nasa to explore and create new things, we get a better living from what they create.

I'm not sure if anyone knows this but, the earth is not going to last forever. Although we can do many things on earth so we can live longer here, either we will get killed by some large natural disaster or the earth cannot sustain life. So what is the solution? We expand to other planets. Nasa currently does not have the ability to go on other planets, so giving more money could speed up the process. If something were to happen on earth, we can still live. Earth is like a ship and if we exist on other planets they are the lifeboats.

Just like the army, Nasa needs people to work for them. This could range from Chemists with years of experience to Janitors. Nasa creates jobs that benefit the economy. Especially now with Covid making people losing jobs and businesses we could definitely need a boost. It's the same when the great depression happened. The government created jobs by creating the hoover dam, and the creation of it gave electricity to a whole entire city.

In the end, YES the pros outweigh the cons. Instead of the government just handing money, giving jobs to people is way better when they also get benefited from the new tech created. There are still a lot more reasons that we should give Nasa funding that I did not touch but these are the main reasons. This is all about the long term benefit, not short term.

Do you think that we should fund Nasa more, yes or no, and explain why?

When somebody talks about Nasa how do you feel?

  • Good topic choice and good summary Edgar. I do think you could have promoted your story more. I see you typed "bumb" in your story and not in the comments whenre you should have typed it so it went to the top of the comments.

  • I do believe that we should fund Nasa more because it could be important for the human race. However I also think that we need to be focused more on trying to help our own planet in every way we can, than on finding another planet to live in and maybe ruin and exploit like we did with planet Earth. That's why in my view we should fund Nasa more if they have to ways to help save this planet with their satellites as you said.

  • I think we should provide much much more funding because you are right if we want the human race to last we are going to have to move to another planet because this one only has so many resources and is not going to last forever.

  • I think we should found Nasa more because they do a lot more then what I thought and if they didn't do some of those things we wouldn't have it to use in our lives, and I agree with how we all take things for granted. When somebody talks about Nasa, the first thing that I think of is space and the space race.

  • I think that we should fund nasa more because it creates good jobs for lots of people. I think it would be a cool idea to live on another planet or even travel to mars. I think we should definately put more money into this. I think of the good past of America when I hear Nasa. I think of being the first country on the moon.

    • A lot of things that Nasa has done are things in the background. But it is about time for Nasa to shine!

  • I think that we should fund Nasa more because they are working to explore the space around the Earth so they can give the people of the world more answers. When somebody talks about Nasa I usually think of people going to the moon and stuff but they do a lot more than that.

    • There are still plenty of unknowns of space that we have not figured out. So Nasa is a great way to explore and solve those unanswered questions.

  • I think that we should increase funding for Nasa but only slightly. While they may provide a technological 'lifeboat' from our crumbling planet for us in the future, we should be putting money into actually solving the issues facing our planet. I can see Nasa as potentially generating a last resort solution for our planet, but right now we need to create solutions to our environmental issues. When we discuss Nasa, I often think of a strong organization that has done a lot for us in the past in terms of the space race but hasn't made any enormous leaps recently. I understand they are in the beginning stages of many interesting projects, and by no means do I think we should decrease funding for Nasa, but I do believe our funds may be better spent in finding solutions to our environmental issues.

    • I agree I'm not asking for a big boost of money to NASA. However, Did you know that Nasa has sent a lot of satellites to space for figuring out climate change. Most of the info on climate change was from Nasa. Lastly, the reason why Nasa has not made any big leaps is that it needs more funding.
