Woman for presidency?

While most countries have been ruled almost entirely by men throughout their histories, more and more women are being elected to high political offices and even becoming heads of state. Many of these women are bringing unique and fresh perspectives on the challenges that their countries face and are showing innovative and effective leadership. Some of these countries include, New Zealand, Iceland, Nepal, and many more. What about the U.S though?

One question that I kept asking myself was why, in the past 233 years, has there not been a single female president in the United States? Well actually, not only did Vice President Kamala Harris become the first female vice president in the U.S but she also made history as the first woman with presidential power during Biden’s health procedure. But of course that was only about 2 years ago... Before that the United States had not had a single female leader. Currently, one of the reasons why women might find it difficult to become president is because, women make up roughly about 20% of the U.S House of Representatives and Senate, and only12% of U.S governors… As a result, The United States has a smaller pool of potential female presidential candidates than other countries do. Before Kamala, the United States has been one of the countries that had not had a female president along with China, Italy, Russia, Japan, and many more.

But Is there a reason behind why some of the most powerful countries have not had a female leader? Well, I believe that one of the reasons is based on these countries' gender roles. Although Russia and Japan aren’t exactly sexist, Russian women apparently are only “equal in theory not in practice” to Russian men. However women are still fighting over inequality…Chinese women also find themselves struggling with this too. While Italian women are to be focused on matrimony and motherhood. So overall, men are still somehow “superior” in these countries.

In conclusion, the United States has not had an “official” female president because there aren’t many female members in the House of Representatives and  that really can affect their overall chances for presidency. And I believe that some of the other countries have not had a female president because of their countries “gender roles”. In my opinion, if other countries around the world have been having female leaders, why should the U.S stay behind? I think more women should step up so their voices can be heard throughout their countries.

  • Love the the topic choice Lineth! Well done!

  • I don't care who is the president as long as they can do the job. I don't think that we should elect a person no matter the gender if they can't handle it. Or if they're too old like Joe Biden. He is told and never can remember what he said or what he is doing.

  • I don't think that gender should even be a part of why you pick a president. You should vote for who you think will rule the country in the best way possible. I can't tell you why we haven't had a female president yet but I do think that it is in the near future. I hope that one day men and women will be treated equal everywhere.

  • I believe that gender shouldn't be the deciding factor when you vote for a president. Personally, I wouldn't vote for a man just because he is a man, and the same goes for women. I would definitely vote for a woman president if I believe that they would do a good job.

    • Yes, I agree with you, gender doesn't matter. And absolutely, I would also vote for whoever made the best candidate. (Male or Female.)

  • I don’t now why it is so hard for women to be president. I don’t think it matters who is president as long as they are good. It shouldn’t matter if they are male or female. Maybe in the future, we will actually have a woman president!

    • Exactly! It shouldn't matter, yet it does to some people. And yes, hopefully we do have a female president soon.

  • Gender in most things should not matter, wheather you are a doctor, teacher, athlete, gender should not matter, but yet, it does in cases. For some reason in some jobs you useally think of a girl or boy doing it. But for me, as long as you know what you are doing for that job then gender should not matter.

    • Absolutely true, there should be no reason to why gender should matter for jobs as long as you're doing what you're supposed to do. And doing it well, of course.

  • I think that gender doesn't really matter it really just comes to how smart they are and how good they could be at their job. Other countries with past female presidents worked out pretty good but not the best, it mostlydepends on how good you can do your job, how strict your going to be with the country and how can you handle being the president.
