Why is Candy and Eggs associated with Easter!?

It is said that eggs have always been associated with birth and new life. The egg is supposed to relate to Jesus Christ and his resurection or his arise. It is also said in the past that eggs were a forbidden food. Painting the eggs/food and then eating them later on resembling the end of penance and fasting. Some people made festivals around them that had no religous significance, but some people made a connection to the activities with religion. An example is the White House Easter Egg Roll where they roll eggs. People said the rolling of these eggs symbolises the stone covering the entrance to Jesus's grave being rolled away. We have connected festivities with religion for centuries, and I think it would be nice to know that.

The Candy and why is it associated with easter now? You know I think when most people think of Easter they think candy and eggs almost immediately. Easter is supposed to symbolize Jesus and his resurrection but it doesn't, does it. Candy is associated with Easter, because it's always been there. We have candy associated with it from the religion side is because it symbolizes Jesus's new life and ressurection. This is what candy represents mostly food or saying we are not hungry anymore while choosing something everyone thought was delicious. The next and last thing I want to say people might know that is associated with Easter is Easter Lillies they even got their name from Easter. Easter lillies are from Japan and spread to the U.S. somehow. Easter Lillies are known for being in churchess and means: Purity and was saying people who believed in Jesus (Christians) were pure; and it could also be known as saying that Jesus had a perfect life full of purity and this is a symbol of that.

What tradition does your family do on Easter?

Do most people know this information and if not, why?

    • I don't know about the Candy, but the website I was reading off said it was related to that. I believe they were talking about egg shaped candy and saying that it was sweet and jesus was kind or sweet would be my best interpretation of what was stated.

    • I agree not many people know this, and that is why I think it is important for people to know this. I've heard from some christian moms that they don't want to celebrate easter with candy and eggs. They think that they don't relate to Easter for Jesus so I thought I'd share my info and my opinion.

  • I don’t think most people realize the connections between eggs, candy and Jesus. I never understood the connections myself but now I understand why eggs are involved. I don’t understand the candy part of it still. Maybe cause it’s a celebration and candy is used for celebrations.

    • I agree with your thinking and was the same until I was curious and looked it up a while ago. I thought why don't I just use this as a topic for my forum post leader forum and, so I did. I saw your interpretation of the candy and think it could have something to do with that.

  • I don't think a lot of people know why they are associated together. Most people know the religion side of the part. The egg part makes sense but the candy still confuses me on how people linked it to Jesus's rebirth. Maybe it was for the younger kids in churches so they could participate more and learn to enjoy Easter.

    • I don't think a lot of people know either this is why I posted this question so people wondered if people knew this interesting fact. Chocolate was really popular at that time for a sweet and the ressurection was a very happy occasion, so they associated something sweet and bitter to symbolize the happy occasion that occured while saying it was bitter at first.

  • I did not know that. I don't think very many people realize how the candy relates to easter, but most people realize that people have candy on easter. I know why Easter is celebrated but I didn't realize the connection from the easter egg to Jesus.

    • Thank you for your input, and I believe that is true too. The candy reason is iffy, but I think they left it hanging like that for us to interpret it or assume it meaning that each person has a different view of things and to see things in a new light. Maybe!

  • I dont believe that many people knew that candy symbolized Jesus, I know I didn't. Many people probably didn't know that Easter eggs and candy sybolized Easter to represent Jesus. I knew Jesus was apart of Easter, just not that candy and eggs did to.

    • I know right it's surprising, so I thought I'd mention it and expand your horizons on this topic. I also couldn't relate the two unless I actually researched it and found out. I don't know much about the candy, but I do know that people wouldn't put useless stuff by and important religion without a reason.
