Why is Candy and Eggs associated with Easter!?

It is said that eggs have always been associated with birth and new life. The egg is supposed to relate to Jesus Christ and his resurection or his arise. It is also said in the past that eggs were a forbidden food. Painting the eggs/food and then eating them later on resembling the end of penance and fasting. Some people made festivals around them that had no religous significance, but some people made a connection to the activities with religion. An example is the White House Easter Egg Roll where they roll eggs. People said the rolling of these eggs symbolises the stone covering the entrance to Jesus's grave being rolled away. We have connected festivities with religion for centuries, and I think it would be nice to know that.

The Candy and why is it associated with easter now? You know I think when most people think of Easter they think candy and eggs almost immediately. Easter is supposed to symbolize Jesus and his resurrection but it doesn't, does it. Candy is associated with Easter, because it's always been there. We have candy associated with it from the religion side is because it symbolizes Jesus's new life and ressurection. This is what candy represents mostly food or saying we are not hungry anymore while choosing something everyone thought was delicious. The next and last thing I want to say people might know that is associated with Easter is Easter Lillies they even got their name from Easter. Easter lillies are from Japan and spread to the U.S. somehow. Easter Lillies are known for being in churchess and means: Purity and was saying people who believed in Jesus (Christians) were pure; and it could also be known as saying that Jesus had a perfect life full of purity and this is a symbol of that.

What tradition does your family do on Easter?

Do most people know this information and if not, why?

  • Personally, I have mostly connected Easter to Jesus and the resurrection. The first thing we do on Easter morning is go to church to worship and talk about everything that Jesus did for us when he died on the cross and rose three days later. However, I have wondered how Easter egg hunts made their way into something that many families do on Easter.

    • I guess it could have something to do with jesus not being in the tomb when people went to find him. People didn't want to find him at that time, and so he seeked them out. So I think everyone saying the Easter Egg is Jesus and we have to seek him out now.

  • I don't think a lot of people know this and don't really think about it becasue it isn't really thought of. I know myself, I  haven't thought about it and did not know about this information. On Easter I even celebrate with eggs but just never thought of this.

    • I also did that for awhile until my parents told me these two things don't relate and we shouldn't do it anymore I looked into it to argue with her. I always had fun on Easter with this activity and found it interesting too. I found the connection and still lost the argument I mean of course because she is my mother.

  • I think that trying to make everything symbolic does not help anyone. As a christian, I believe that easter celebrates the death, burial, and ressurection, but if athiests don't believe that, I don't want to stop them from celebrating Easter too. I think that we need to enjoy the Holiday without so much time worrying about how we can get an egg to symbolize something. We already understand what Jesus did for us. Isn't that enough?

    • I understand that this is enough, and I am also a christian. I think it's nice to understand why these two came into fruition, and the symbol is the reason as to why it is there.I believe athiest have tried to change to change the holiday by adding bunnnies, different types of candies, and different activities. Some of these are okay it's not the whole of them just some.

  • In my family we have always colored eggs on Easter and then the next day we would have an Easter egg hunt at my grandmas. I have never really thought about why we do this. I just always know that to be tradition. I did not know this information, and I bet a lot of other people don't either.

    • I also like this tradition and find it interesting and good for a stand against my mother and did some research on it. I don't celebrate with my grandma because she is unwell, but I celebrate with my family and the church. I hope more people get to know this fantastic traditon and enjoy it.
