Why is Candy and Eggs associated with Easter!?

It is said that eggs have always been associated with birth and new life. The egg is supposed to relate to Jesus Christ and his resurection or his arise. It is also said in the past that eggs were a forbidden food. Painting the eggs/food and then eating them later on resembling the end of penance and fasting. Some people made festivals around them that had no religous significance, but some people made a connection to the activities with religion. An example is the White House Easter Egg Roll where they roll eggs. People said the rolling of these eggs symbolises the stone covering the entrance to Jesus's grave being rolled away. We have connected festivities with religion for centuries, and I think it would be nice to know that.

The Candy and why is it associated with easter now? You know I think when most people think of Easter they think candy and eggs almost immediately. Easter is supposed to symbolize Jesus and his resurrection but it doesn't, does it. Candy is associated with Easter, because it's always been there. We have candy associated with it from the religion side is because it symbolizes Jesus's new life and ressurection. This is what candy represents mostly food or saying we are not hungry anymore while choosing something everyone thought was delicious. The next and last thing I want to say people might know that is associated with Easter is Easter Lillies they even got their name from Easter. Easter lillies are from Japan and spread to the U.S. somehow. Easter Lillies are known for being in churchess and means: Purity and was saying people who believed in Jesus (Christians) were pure; and it could also be known as saying that Jesus had a perfect life full of purity and this is a symbol of that.

What tradition does your family do on Easter?

Do most people know this information and if not, why?

  • Interesting topic Victoria! Be sure to reply back three diffeent days. While you gave good effort in your summarym, I do think it could be organized a bit better. -20-Two days late

  • In my family since we moved to America we buy some plastic eggs from the store and filled them with candy and money and go and seek them in the dark, but in the morning of easter we usually go to church.

  • Well, when I was a kid my parents normally hid easter eggs and then we would go around finding them, but now we pretty much just chill around the house with family. I hardly doubt that most people know this information. I think that a lot of people know what Easter should be about though, which is about Jesus' resurection.

  • I'm Italian and in my country we don't really have he Easter eggs tradition or the Easter bunny, it's usually more common to eat chocolate shaped like very big eggs, we also eat either lamb or a kid (the young goat). I think that even if there might be some resemblance between these traditions and religion some things are just not really  religious anymore.

  • I think that people have good knowledge of Easter but many people may not know because they aren't religious. The egg representing the rebirth makes sense but I'm not sure how the candy comes into place. But I'm sure that there is a reason that candy got thrown into the deal.

  • I think that a lot of people know that these things are associated together. I think people associate eggs with easter because some people go on easter egg hunts for Easter. I would think that most people know this information because it is a pretty popular holiday.

  • Personally this interested me very much,Everyone who has ever gone to church and maybe who hasn't knows the religious side of easter. But when you mentioned the egg being the rebirth that kinda makes sense. But when you throw candy in the mix it starts to not make any sense. I'm sure there is a legitament way to relate the candy to easter and the candy to the egg but it's a little unrealistic as of reading it from a students point of view.

  • I think that a lot of people know what easter is all about.  I dont really know how many people know what all the treats and goods mean when they get that stuff.

    • I believe they don't know what the treats and eggs means either so I wanted to share the information. Maybe more people will celebrate it if they knew what most of the stuff was. Happy late Easter! Also I am sure more people will know even just a little.

  • I think most people know the religious side of Easter. I don't think people know why the candy and eggs are associated with easter. I can understand the egg being related to Jesus and his resurection, but I don't see how candy is related to Jesus' new life and resurrection.
