Over the course of this pandemic there has been a lot of argument about not wearing masks, but some of the main people who seem to refuse to wear a mask are the churches and the people who claim to be "Christians". Majority of the people in the churches seem to have no regard for the people around them and they seem to be oblivious that there is any virus at all that is killing more and more people everyday. In Colorado Springs, Colorado one night this seemed to be the case for New Life Church, one of five mega churches in the Pikes Peak region. With five-hundred or more people singing with no masks on you would think they might be smart enough to put their masks on especially with the Colorado governer putting out a mask mandate just days earlier, but no, they just kept going on pretending that the virus was non-existent.
Some people in the churches will even go so far as to stay home if they are told to wear masks. Brady Boyd states, "I’m finding this to be true at churches all over America: If they’re told they have to wear a mask, they’ll stay home." In many of the churches the majorty of the people that seem to not be wearing masks are conservative and heavily support Trump. For instance in the article it states, "pressure is particularly acute here at the base of Pikes Peak. Long the conservative bastion of Colorado, this city and surrounding El Paso County, home to about 720,000 people, overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2016. (The county last voted for a Democratic candidate for president in 1964.)" Here is shows that the people at these churches feel no pressure to wear a mask because no one else is wearing one. The Republican sheriff of that county refused to enforce the mask mandate put out by the government.
Many of the Christians who go to my church or the people who claim to be Christians say that if you have faith in God then you don't need to wear a mask. While I do believe that you should have faith in God to protect you from harm that does not mean that you don't have to wear a mask. There is absolutely nothing wrong with following the governers orders and being a good example to the people who will not so eventually they may turn there attitude around and maybe start thinking about others. I have heard many Christians teach about selflessness and telling others that you should think about others and not about yourself. Then when the virus hits they are the ones not wearing their masks. Doesn't seem very selfless to me. So is it that hard to wear a mask? Does it really need to be argued about so much in the churches and in government? All I can tell you is this pandemic has brought out the best and the worst in people.
So do you think that it seems like the churches are not wearing masks and taking absolutely no precautions? Why?
I think that majority of churches in the United States are being very selfish and being a terrible example and taking no precautions because the think God will protect them.
Do you think that there is anything wrong with wearing a mask or that it is a political stunt?
I do not think that there is anything wrong with wearing a mask and if you care about people then you should wear one. I do not think it is a political stunt either.

Great topic choice and well done Seth!
Personally I think that most churches have been following governement guidelines. Many churches have shut down and broadcasted church live with no attendees or require masks to be able to come. It is a person's choice to stay home or not, regardless of the mask rule. Many of the people not attending church do not care about masks they are worried for their well-being. I do not think that there is anything wrong with wearing a mask. However, if people are socially distanced and do not feel ill, I do not understand why they could not take a quick mask break. Many people have been heavily criticized for not wearing their masks for just five quick minutes while they catch their breath. So I guess you could say I'm on the edge about if masks really work of if they are a political stunt.
There is a lot of evidence that shows that masks do work and that if you wear a mask your chances of getting the virus are decreased a lot. With so many people dead in the world there should not be a question on whether the masks work or not.
A lot of churches are not wearing masks or taking precautions because they are usually selfish when they claim to be selfless. Though not every church is not taking precautions, all it takes is one or two full churches with no mask on to spread the virus like wildfire, preventing it from slowing down. People saying their church is having precautions and that one church not doing so makes it sound like none of them are taking precautions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a mask. It doesn't bother me one bit or take away any of my freedom. All the people who disagree with masks are most likely ignorant or just don't care. I don't think it's political at all. I'd rather wear a mask all day then lay in the hospital and suffer for 2 weeks because of a virus I could have prevented from getting.
I agree with you that people who don't wear masks are very ignorant and don't care. Suffering in a hospital from coronavirus for 2 weeks would be terrible and it is sad that people don't wear their masks and because of this people have died.
I disagree that churches are doing nothing, and are "oblivious" to the virus aroud us. Many churches have shut down becasue of covid, and most of the ones that are open are taking precautions by wearing masks. My church still hasn't opened back up. Yes, I do think they should be more cautious with whats happening, but not everyone is going to. There are definetly more churches being cautious with the virus than others that are not. Just becasue you found one church that didn't, doesn't mean that others aren't.
I disagree with you if you talk to many of the people in the evangelical churches they are against masks. A lot of this is because they are Republican and follow Trump strongly and Trump doesn't wear a mask so they are anti-mask.
I don't think there is anything wrong or bad about wearing a mask. If it protects people than I will wear it so no one gets sick. I think people in the churches are using god as an excuse to not wear one. Which is very wrong, churches across the country are being very selfish about wearing masks I think.
I agree with you that it is not wrong to wear a mask. I think that people are making a much bigger deal out of this then needs to be made. They just need to put a mask on and stop complaining. I also agree that it is sad that people use God as an excuse and that they are being selfish not selfless.
Some churches aren't taking the right percautions, yes. They are using God as an excuse which is very wrong. Although their are some churches doing a great job. As a Christian I believe that weraing a mask is just protecting everyone and doing as the bible says, put others before yourself. Wearing a mask is not that hard and if you are using it as a political stunt that's wrong.
