White House Blocks News Organizations

During a White House briefing on Friday February 24, 2017 several news organizations were banned. Here are a few of the organizations that were banned: New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Politico and BuzzFeed. Sean Spicer the White House press secretary held this gaggle. A gaggle is chaos from a group of people being noisy. A White House spokeswoman Sarah Saunders stated that the White House "had the pool there so everyone would be represented and get an update from us today." Typically there is a representative from the five major news organizations, today there were only four present. CNN was the only major organization that wasn't invited or attended. CNN and the Times protested. CNN stated, "This is an unacceptable development by the Trump White House. Apparently this is how they retaliate when you report facts they don't like. We'll keep reporting regardless." The New York times executive editor Dean Baquet wrote, "Nothing like this has ever happened at the White House in our long history of covering multiple administrations of different parties. We strongly protest the exclusion of The New York Times and the other news organizations. Free media access to a transparent government is obviously of crucial national interest." President Trump announced that "They are the enemy of the people because they have no sources," Trump said. "They just make them up when there are none."

Questions

1. Do you think the media purposely torments Trump to make him mad?

2. Is it necessary for the White House to block news organizations from briefings?

I think that the media purposely torments Trump to make him mad because he gets angry at the smallest things. I don't think it is necessary for the White House to block news organizations because if they don't like what is being said they shouldn't pay attention to it. I think people that work for these news organizations do things just to irritate President Trump because he gives in to.

  • Good job Nicole!

  • I think that the "media" has turned into a political movement more than a news movement. They want to report about politics more than news that we could really use. Fake news is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard of. I think that the people who allow this are just idiots. Lots of people watch the news, and they know that. Thats why they can get away with it. They can also get away with it because, some people believe the news no matter what it says.

  • I think that they don't like him so they construe the things he says to make him look bad. I don't think it was necessary but if they are just going to change what they say than I can see why he did it.

  • Yes because things usually make him mad even though it may not be that big of a problem. I think that they should be able to do that.

  • Yes, the internet loves seeing Trump angry just because his reactions are genuine and funny. No, it is over exaggerating, the News networks are reporting news which is their job after all.

  • I feel that people don't like him so then that means that they try to make him mad and put bad stuff out so that he will get in trouble but i don't think their plan is going to work. I feel that they shouldn't but Donald trump can do whatever he wants and sometimes he doesn't make the best decisions! They are trying to make everyone think that he is the next Hitler and is going to end the US which sometimes it looks that way but in the long run he is doing what he feels right so we would give him a chance!

  • Yes, I believe that the press intentionally goes after trump antagonizing him and making his life harder and job harder than it needs to be. He tries to do what he thinks is best for the country and they try to paint him as the next Hitler.  I feel it is necessary for the them to block these organizations from briefings because  some are so biased and say so many confidential breaks that it is impossible for the government to function in affairs necessary to the country.

  • I agree with you. The media must have known what they were doing and that it would anger Trump. I also don't think that it is necessary.

  • I believe that the media torments him to make him say bad things or mess up. They should not do this because he is the president and we all have to follow him under certain circumstances. I think that it is necessary because lots of this is unnecessary and shouldn't put our president through all this stuff.

  • Yes I think they definitely target Trump because they don't like him. I think they report all the bad information about Trump and rarely focus on the good things. I think that banning the organizations might teach them to be respectful instead of harassing the president and causing disorder.
