On Tuesday, January 18, the Biden Administration started taking orders for free COVID tests. But how are they going to get these tests to the public? Right now, hospitals and clinics are having to limit the amount of people they test because they are short tests. It is becoming a big issue with hospitals and clinics around the country being able to test the public.
For example, due to supply shortage the Denison clinic isn’t able test patients with a rapid test unless they have had symptoms for more than three days. Also, they can’t test more than one person in a family if the whole family is sick. They are limiting rapid tests to one per family with the same symptoms, and any additional family members needing to be tested have to do the PCR test that is sent to the State Lab and results aren’t available for 24-48 hrs. The Denison hospital and clinic only received 80 rapid tests last week, which is not nearly enough compared to the amount of people that need and/or want to be tested. Iowa Public Health is experiencing the same issues accessing rapid test kits. This isn’t just an issue in Denison. Hospitals and clinics all around the country are lacking tests. Hospitals have only been getting ⅓ or less tests than they were in the summer.
So where is the Biden Administration getting these tests to give to people for free? According to the Wall Street Journal, “The federal government has already contracted to buy more than 420 million tests.” But shouldn’t these tests go towards the hospitals and clinics that need them rather than the average American? And where are they getting these tests from? Healthcare organizations need more tests than the public person who may never even use them.
In my opinion, I believe that the Biden Administration should give those 420 million tests to hospitals and clinics, rather than the public people who might not even use them. Healthcare organizations are trying to meet the needs of people by testing them, but this is almost impossible with the amount of tests they are receiving.
Do you believe these tests should go to the public people or healthcare organizations?

Good topic choice and very well done Lauren!
I do believe that these tests should go out the the public because people could be more likely to test get tested if they could do it themselves and at their homes. However, they still should make sure that healthcare organizations have enough tests so that they don't run out and people still have the option of going to the hospital to get tested.
I think that the Covid tests should go to the public because it helps people get tested without having to go to the hospital, around the more suseptable people. It also helps people who want to get tested in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
I think so because these tests shoud go to the public because Covid -19 cases are spreading with the Omicron variant now at its peak in the season. Plus, with all of these people not wearing their masks in places that they should probably be wearing masks like schools, offices, and shops like my uncle. But, I also think that it should go to healthcare organizations because they will help determine if you have Covid- 19 or not with the Omicron variant going as strong as ever. At least the number of Covid cases has gone down in the rates the last few days because millions of people are getting sick and dying from the disastrous disease that unfortunately ended a lot of people's lives.
I agree thet the tests should be available to the public, but more of them should be going to healhcare organizations who are not even being able to test patients because of these shortages. There are tests availabe at retail stores and pharmacies, so people can purchase them there if they really feel the need to test at home.
I believe that they should be going to both the public and the healthcare organizations. There might be some people that just would like to do the tests at home and that should be okay, and they are also healthcare organizations that I believe should be getting some of them
I agree that they should be available to the public, but they are sold at some retail stores and pharmacies. Just handing every household 4 tests is unnecessary in my opinion.
I think that these tests should be given to healthcare facilities, not individual families. I wouldn't have as big of a problem with it if the hospitals had so many tests that they couldn't even use them all. But the fact that healthcare facilities can't get their hands on any and biden wants to give them to the public to use and many of them be wasted is not right.
I agree. I also wouldn't have a problem with it if hospitals weren't short on tests, but since they are, I believe that those tests need to be supplied to hospitals, not just to anyone who apllies for them.
Overall, I think that these tests would be better used in the hopsitals because even when people test at home, they may not tell anyone and continue going to schol. But at the same time, are these home tests actaully creditable and accurate? I think there are too many false positives and negatives to really know.
