Here's the billboard:

This billboard is displayed on a very popular New York shop corner, where there is a Planned Parenthood center just a few buildings down. The group that put up the billboard says that there are 3 times more abortions among african american women than that of the rest of the population. The reactions to the billboard were divided by some defending it, and some said it was an effert to bad-mouth African American women. The mother of the girl on the billboard said she had  no idea the picture was going to be used for this, and prefers that it would be taken down.

I think this ad should be taken down, because it's implying that african americans should have abortions. Some people find that very offensive. If a person, who has had an abortion,  sees this ad, they might remember how they felt after they got the abortion and they could feel sad or mad, and want it to be taken down.

  • I think that abortion is the worst thing in the first place. If it had a white person up their than the black population wouldn't really say anything about it. I would like to agree with Jordan that it is pro-life. I think it was put up to show the african american population stats showing that they are killing a lot of little babies. I think they should just get rid of abortion in this country. People all the time say that they shouldnt take things out on other people. Well its not that babies fault that you decided to have sex with out a condom, or the condom broke. So i dont think you should beable to take it out on them. That is all.
  • It does not seem very professional to specify what kind of child. Targeting African-Americans just seems wrong.
  • mmmmm....idk. it's very true.....according to statistics. not according to some people. some people may be offended.
  • i don't see why people think this is racist? i don't see it as racist at all. i sorta agree with it, because i am against abortion. but then again, sometimes it's whats best for the baby. so i'm not sure.
  • i don't think it was meant to be racist, just trying to be informative kinda.. it may have been able to be done a little more tactfully.
as for the reminding women of their abortions, then maybe they shouldn't have gotten into that situation and decided to solve their problem that way.. im not saying there are special circumstances that i think an abortion might be okay, but most of the time it's due to people's irresponsibility
  • This should definetely be taken down! What happens, happens. People will make their own choices no matter what billboard is put up.
  • isn't it kind of...racist?

but if the mother of the girl on the bilboard didn't agree to her daughter's picture being publisized like that, then theres no question. it need to be taken down, because the girl is a minor and they didnt have her parents' permission. its an issue of privacy.

  • It is not implying that "african americans should have abortions". It is really implying that african american women have more abortions, as the above paragraph also states.  It is saying that abortions are not good, and is merely raising awareness of the alarming rate of abortions in african american women. I think it's fine.
  • I don't think it's racist at all. It's just saying that the choice of abortion is a much higher possibility for African Americans. It's saying that the dangers within the womb and the chance of abortion is bad.
  • hahahahaha that's funny. sometimes you get pregnant and dont want to have them adopted.
