A tree topper is the large ornament placed on the very top of a Christmas tree. No one knows exactly where they originated, but their first on record use was in Germany in the 1600s back when baby Jesus tree toppers covered family trees covered with gold glitter, gingerbread and apples.
As time has gone on, angel toppers had become the most popular In England during the 17th century. It makes sense since angles play a large part in the Christmas nativity story and have many Christmas carols to back it up like “Hark the Hearld Angels Sing ''. However the angle on top of the tree to most people represents the heavenly messengers who announced the birth of Jesus Christ.
As more and more years have gone by, star tree toppers have gained popularity. Many people today purchase all different shapes, sizes, and colors of these christmas star toppers to place on top of the family tree representing the very well known star of Bethlaham.
Years and years later Christmas tree toppers are still used in many households that choose to celebrate the season of Christmas. However, today there are more creative tree toppers that have expanded beyond just stars and angles placed at the top of the tree. Unique ideas of these christmas tree toppers keep getting better and better each year consisting of snowman, elfs, candy canes, and even santa.
In my opinion I think that both the star and the angel on top of the tree are equally as special. My family places an angel on one of our trees and a star on the other during the holidays.
- What do you place on top of your tree?
- Do you prefer a star or an angle?
- Do you place something other than an angel or star on your tree?

We don't usually out anything at the top of our tree but if we do it is a star. I like when a star is ontop of our tree but I don't think I have ever seen an angle on top of a tree. We would only place a star on top of our tree but I have seen a Santa ontop of a tree before.
In my family, we have 2 trees, and in them, we have stars because it resembles the star of Bethlehem as you mentioned, and It also looks very pretty. It doesn't matter what you put in your tree, or if you don't have one, all that matters is that you are together with your family for the holidays.
I agree no matter what you choose to place on top of the tree all that matters is your together for the holidays.
We have a bow at the top of our Christmas tree. I prefer a star but I don't mind an angel either. Yes we place a bow at the top of our tree because it goes with the decorations better. We used to have an angel a long time ago in my old house.
I have seen some bows in more recent years being placed on top of trees the ideas are getting more and more creative as the years go by.
My family has placed Santa Claus on the top of our main tree in the past years. This year we placed a star on the top of the tree and I think it looks good. I don't think that it matters what you put on the top of the tree they all don't have a specific meaning and I think they all look good.
I agree I think it really comes down to a personal opinion and what your family decided to place on top.
At our house we place a gold star on top of our tree. I think every family and households is diffrent becaause we all celebrate christmas a diffrent way so its just on what they believe.
I agree every household is very diffrent and many have diffrent beleifs and celebrate the season of Christmas diffrently.
We usually place an angel on top of our tree because it is what we have had for a lot of the time. We have not changed it at all because we don't feel like buying a new one. I like the angel on top of the tree more unless the star is glowing with the tree. I don't know what else you would put on a christmas tree if you don't have a star or an angel.
