As you know, multiple stores are now using self check-out stations. You see them everytime you walk into a grocery store. Many people have different opinions on self check-out stations. CNN gives us pros and cons on why people think they may or maynot be good.
Pros:
People think that it's faster than human cashier. Some stores also see themselves as being competitive with other stores. People want to shop at the better stores. According the CNN, the pandemic also changed the way people shop because it made it so you wouldn't have to be around other people. After the pandemic it was harder for stores to find people that want to work as cashiers.
Cons:
CNN states, "According to a survey last year of 1,000 shoppers, 67% said they’d experienced a failure at the self-checkout lane." That is over half of the people that have problems or errors when checking-out. After this many years you think they would have it figur out. According to CNN, self check-out have less security than human check-outs. Which means the stores have more shoplifters and the store loses money. Also, the machines are expensive to install and keep them working. Self check-out machines have been since the early 1900's. The purpose was to lower the prices of what was on the shelf, because they didn't have to pay for someone else to check them out (CNN Business). "The system reduced cashier costs by as much as 66%, according to a 1988 article in the Miami Herald.", states CNN.
I'm against self check-out stations, because if I was in a rush to get somewhere and one of the items didn't ring up, I may not know. Then when I walked through the sensors, they would start beepingI, and could be accused of shoplifting. Also, it takes away jobs from people who may need the money.
Questions
Is it easier for people to shop-lift?
Is it putting a dent in the number of jobs out there for people?

Love th topic choice and your summary is well done Dominic! Be sure to keep replying!! That part is worth 30 points.
I personally think that it might be able to make shop-lifting easier for people. but security and technology has improved greatly. I personally like self-checkout because it's a lot faster in my opinion. And I think that it is eliminating jobs for people, but not enough to make a severe impact.
I think that it would be easier to steal from the store. However, with cameras and all of the security technology that we have anymore, there is no reason that not all of the theifs are caught. Automated check-outs are good because they eliminate the human in the equation.
I feel like it would be easier for people to steal at self checkout stations just because there isn't a constant eye on every station. The people working that area can't watch every single thing that happens. It definitely takes away some jobs, but I wouldn't say a lot of jobs because there are still cashiers working too.
I believe that customers are more likely to shoplift while using self checkout because of limited surveillances. However, depending on the store sometimes there needs to be administration to pay. Having an option for self-checkout is a good thing for introverted people and having person-to-person checkout is good for extroverted people. I think self-checkout is limiting people's jobs because it reduces the amount of money employees' earn.
I think that customers are more likely to shoplift when self checkout is used. I also think that self-checkout is taking away people's jobs. Most people that work at stores that are working at checkout are high school teenagers. This is giving highschool teens less jobs and less of an opportunity to earn money.
I think that having self check-out stations make it easier for people to shoplift. I also think it can be beneficial when you're not buying many things and you want to be quick. It also could be bad because with more self check-out stations, that means less employees.
I think it would be easier to shoplift because their are not as much workers with eyes on you. I think it is putting dents but some places do it because they don't have workers.
I think that self check-out is making shop-lifting easier, but if people are going to steal, the kind of check-out won't change anything. It is probably taking away jobs in stores, but there are a lot of jobs out there. I personally like self check-outs more if I don't have a lot of stuff I'm buying.
I think it could be a little bit easier for poeple to shop-lift with self ceckout but if stores have the things that go off when you shop-lift it should be fine. Yes, I think it definetly could be putting a dent in the number of jobs out there for people, since it's taking the place of other people.
