Westward Expansion

The Alamo is what i will be talking about today.

President General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna sent an assult on the Alamo mission near San Antonio de Bexar. All of the Texan defenders but two survived. By a desire for some revenge, the Texans defeated the Mexican Army at the site of San Jacinto.

On February 23rd 1,500 mexican troops marched into San Antonio de Bexar, as one of the first steps trying to re-take Texas. The next 12 days they fought minor battles with little casualties. Travis was aware that the mexican army could not withsatnd a large force. travis wrote many letters pleading for more supplies and men, but fewer than 100 men arrived

Early morning on march 6th, the Mexican Amry pushed back the Texans, after putting up two devastating attacks, the Texans were not able to fend off a third attack. Between 5 or 7 Texan troops may have surrendered, if so they were exucated. Eyewitnesses say that 182 and 257 Texans were killed, and historians of the Alamo say that there were 400 to 600 Mexian troops killed or wounded. several pople that werent in the war were sent to gonzalezz to spread the news that the Texans had lost. The news outbroke into panic, nown as "The Runaway Scrape."

In Mexico the Alamo was overshdowed by the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. In Texas The Alamo became more known as the site rather than the mission.
