On August 23, 1939 Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact with each other. In this pact, the two sides agreed not to attack each other for ten years. By signing this pact, it allowed Germany to invade Poland without fear of the Soviet Union intervening. The reason the Soviet Union might have intervened was because they could fear if Germany took over Poland, then they would be that much closer to their border. This pact also allowed for the Soviet Union to take parts of Poland at the same time Germany was invading.
On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland, which England and France said they would protect after Germany had taken over several other countries. This invasion officially caused Britain and France to declare war on Germany (although the Soviet Union also invaded Poland.) The pact that was signed set in motion the invasion of Poland. Do you believe that was the real start of the war? Why or why not?
It is interesting when many talk about the beginning of the war they don't mention the Soviet Union's role in also invading Poland, and slaughtering millions of Jews and Slovaks as well. They say that the winner writes history, and the Soviet Union was eventually on the Allies' side. What do you think that quote means, "Winners write history."? Do you agree with it? Explain.
Interestingly enough, the Soviet Union was invaded by Germany on June 22, 1941, when Hitler felt that he had a chance to deliver a blow to them.

I personally think that August 23rd was the start of the war. This was the first invasion that had happend. It had happend right after the signing of non-aggresion pact. Therefor it's the start of the war.
I think this was the beggining of the war when the pact was signed allowed Poland and Germany to start war. Began easily and was a big problem after that
yes I agree. I think that the start of the world war 2 was when Hitler invaded Poland on September 1st, 1939 because when you invade an other country it usually means war.
NO because they didnt make the treat of versailles strict enough for Germany. I agree with the quote because the people who won the war are going to be listened to more than the people who loose the war.
I think part of the problem was that the Treaty of Versailles was too strict.
No because I think Archiduke Ferdinad was the main reason when he was asssasssinated. No cause losers can write history also for losing.
I believe when that pact was signed it started the war because it allowed for germany to invade poland. I think it is because the soviet union couldn't stop them.
The quote "Winner's write History" I agree with that quote we wouldn't have a history with out winners. I mean look at the wars. If there wasn't a winner we would still be in war. Our history wouldn't be much if there wasn't a winner like the allies.
Why? I need to have your evidence that supports this reason. What does it mean that the winners write history/
Yes, I think that this was the start of the war. Even though there were times that lead up to the war, I think that this is the actual start. I do think that the winners write history. Because when you hear about, the winner is the good guy and the loser is the bad guy. It usually works that way but I guess there might be some expections. I can't think of one at the moment but I'm sure there is.
