Walmart Shooter Kills 3

On November 2nd a quiet Walmart became a crime scene in Denver Colorado. Scott Ostrem, a 42 year old, Went shopping and while checking out he pulled out a gun and fired at 3 people; A woman, and two men were hit and killed. People were running and hiding, some went outside while others went and hid in isles. One teenager, stuck inside of the store texted his mom, "I'm at 1% Mom, my battery is ready to die, but there's a shooter here at Walmart. If anything happens to me, I love you guys." Others were yelling "Hes got a gun, Hes got a gun!" After firing Scott makes a run for it and drives away in his car, moments later police find and arrest him and claim it was not a targeted shooting.

1.)What would you do if you were in this Walmart at the time?

2 weeks ago I was in this Walmart...luckily I didn't go later but it was in a fairly nice neighborhood and since this is a larger Walmart than what is around us and so there are more places to go. I would go into one of the isles away from the eletronics and other expensive items. Im not sure if I would be one to stand up and fight against him however due to not being armed and others that are.

2.)What do you think make Scott do this?

I think he was having some sort of mental problems because normal people would not do things like this no matter what. I think there must have been a mental illness present.

3.)What do you think the punishment should be?

I think that they need to take him and get a therapist to talk to him because happy people dont shoot people. I then think that he should stay in prison and sit there and not be released ever. I find that sometimes people dont chance after they do things like this.

  • Good summary but you only replied three times to student comments.

  • I would be super scared and try to either get out of there or hide. I think that he, like many other shooters, has some type of mental illness that really needed to be addressed before-hand but never did. I think he needs jail time and to get some type of help (therapy or something along those lines.)

  • 1. I would panic and try to find a place to hide. I'd also try and help anyone else who happened to be by me. 2. I think he had a mental disability and maybe not he could've just been mad lately and maybe his life was hard and he was just done. 3. I think he should have a long time in prison, but I think he should also be seen by a therapist so they could give him the help he needs.

  • I would go find a hiding spot until the shooting stopped. In my hiding spot, I would call the police and inform my family I am okay. I think something made Scott mad, and he felt the need to seek revenge on innocent people at Walmart. He definitely has mental problems. He should go to prison and a mental hospital.

  • 1. I don't know what I would do. It would he hard to make a decision in a split second between life and death. I would probably try and hide but if I was close to the entrance of the Walmart, I would run out to my car and leave.

    2. It could have been a number of reasons. And we might not ever know why but it probably wasn't something aimed towards someone he shot. He was probably just mad at himself of the people around him or something.

    3. I think he should be punished just as any other killer would be. It isn't like it was an accident or anything. It was on purpose and he should be punished just like any other murderer would be.

  • I would be scared. I don't know why everyone thinks they need to go around a shoot people, like honestly I'm sure you can do something better. There is nothing bad enough in the world to make someone go around an shoot people. I don't know why anyone would do this, he probably had some type of illness. He should be punished or at least have consequences, he did kill 3 people. He need to seek help, that for sure.

  • 1. Hide in the ball pin

    2. Everything leading up to that point maybe his childhood

    3. Some things make you bad but they don't give you an excuse to be that way. I think he should be treated like anyone else max punishment. Just because you have a bad life doesn't mean you have to ruin the lives of others.

  • I don't know what i would do. I would be afraid and would hide for sure but I think that i would do what the teenager did and at least tell my family i loved them. i also know that i would be smart about hiding and get into somewhere with cover while he shot because an un-moving target and someone under cover isnt going to be as appealing of a target to the shooter.

I think that scott has a mental problem or is unable to control something going on in his life, I agree that there is no way a healthy and happy person would go without any warning into a public store and shoot people. i think that the most logical reason why he would do this is it may make him feel more in control which when you cant control something hard in your life it can make you tunnel visioned and  unable to think logically which could lead to doing something like this.

  • I would run and find the safest place to hide, but if the shooter stayed in there for a longer time period I might go to the paper towel isles and build a small hideout area. I don't think that Scott was mentally there because not many sane people would go and shoot up Walmart for no apparent reason. I think he should serve jail time because he did kill the three people he shot at.

  • I would try to find something to stop the shooter

    Attention

Prison if you do the crime you should do the time.
