Voyager scienctist celebrate 40 years of Space exploration

Tuesday, Sept 5th, marks 40 years since the launch of the Voyager probes. The crafts launched only a week apart but have made years of research. Voyager 2 was launched first but its faster sister-probe Voyager 1 bypassed it and reached interstellar space in 2013. Voyager 2 is currently flying through the shield of material that separates our solar system from interstellar space. Both of these craft's contain what is known as "The Golden Record" which identifies their origin, purpose, electronic images, natural sounds in our nature, and Earths position in Space. Therefore, if it is found by some other race, it would lead them to us and let them know about our culture.

1. What type of significance do these probes have to humanity, and do you think they will ever find anything important?

2. Do you think it would be wise to lead, if there is, an alien species directly to us? Evaluate.

I really like the idea of the Voyagers because of their aspect of exploration. They Were sent out past our solar system into the unknown with no real plan of where they were going. It alows for exploration of a different kind, a really creative kind.

I think that leading an alien race to our earth would definitely open doors. Said doors could be good or bad. If it is a violent species, probably not a good thing. But if it were a peaceful species than many different avenues could be taken. Trade, education. Either way it would be very interesting.

  • Good job! Wish more people would have commented but you can't control that.

  • I really think and hope that they will find something important and if they found another kind of life it would probably be one of the most significant discoveries ever.

Yes, I definitely think that it would be wise. Of course it wouldn't be that great, if the alien species was violent, but even if that would be the case we would still learn so much about the world we are living in and that would be a huge progress!

    • I really agree with a-lot of what your saying. I really like the fact that you believe we can benefit from even violent alien species.
