Virtual Learning on Snow Days!?

With the way that today's world is, it comes to no surprise that some schools may be thinking of having their students do virtual learning on considered "snow days". Of course, like most subjects, this is very controversial between many people. Some people think that it is a great idea, so that way the students are still having to learn and aren't missing any school days. Where other people think that that is ridiculous and that kids should still be able to have normal snow days, because those are days they looked forward to when they were children.

There are some people who think that since we have the technology and are able to virtually learn that there shouldn't be any scheduled school days that students should have to miss because of weather. They believe that students should be learning as much as possible in the amount of time that they have. A big majority of these parents that think that are either parents of students that may have some sort of learning disability that they need extra help with or there are even just parents who really care about the well being of their children's education.

Then of course there are parents who think that it is crazy for their children to have to either Zoom into their classes or just have to do online school on a day with bad weather. These parents claim that "Snow days were some of the best days of my childhood" and that they would love for their children to experience those days as well. Many school's administrations have not made their students do virtual learning on snow days, at least not yet, because they know that it would honestly just be a hassle trying to do online learning for just one day. Also some of their staff and students still may have to travel somewhere just to use certain facilities with good network connections.

I personally do not think that students should have to do virtual learning on snow days. I think that especially during these times, everyone could use a little break and snow days are the perfect time for that. I know that I definitely look forward to snow days, because it means a day, or more, of not having to worry about school and to just take a little time for myself. I can understand where the people who think we should do virtual learning on snow days are coming from, because our education is important. For now, I would just really like it if we could keep the snow days and I'm pretty sure a lot of people agree with that.

Questions:

Do you think students should have to do virtual learning on snow days, why?

What do you like to do on snow days that having virtual learning would prevent you from doing?

  • Great topic choice and well done overall! I do think you could have replied a few more times. Also, while normally would be deducted 20 points(ten points per day) for posting late on Tuesday, I will only take off ten points due to the snow days.

  • I don't think learning on school days would be a good idea. Firstly many kids don't live in town and when it snows in the country wifi can be horribly slowed and performs very badly. Secondly some kids don't even have wifi. And finally I believe snow days should be break day so students and teachers can have a healthy break from school.

  • I don't believe that students should have to do virtual learning on snow days. Those should be days where students get to take a little break, maybe spend sometime with their families or doing things that you usually don't have time for, without having to worry abou school. I think that having this kind of time for yourself  can even help the learning evironment because students are rested.

  • I don't think that schools should have virtual learning on snow days because everyone enjoys having days off and no one would want to look at a computer screen  for the entire day. Also little kids like to go sledding on snow days.

  • I dont think that schools should start having students do virtual learning on snow days. Everystudent always look forward to snow day because it is a day off to relax and have a break.  I my opinion it would kind of be a waste of time because there would be many people who would not do their work. Then students would come back to school in person and everyone would be in diffrent spots.

  • I do not think that students need to do virtual learning on snow days. Because of the bad weather I think it allows students to relax and take a break from school. Even some teachers enjoy these snow days because they can catch up on their work or take a day off.

  • No, I don't think that students should do virtual learning on school days. Personally, I think that there snow days for a reason. To stay home and be safe. It's almost like a day off from all this stress. Yes it would be nice for the teachers because we would not fall behind of there schedule. I also like to sleep in on snow days. I need to catch up on all my lost sleep that school causes me to have.

    • I agree that snow days are definitely used to catch up on sleep for a lot of people. Most people don't sleep a whole lot during the school week so now days are definitely nice for that.

  • In my opinion, I don't think that virtual learning should happen on snow days. I think this because it is a "day off". I do not do much on snow days, however it is nice to have a day off once in a while. I also think most students would not log in to virtual learning. They would probably not pay attention, or they would nore care enough to log into the virtual learning.

  • I do not think students should have to do virtual learning on snow days because if school got cancelled before virtual learning was a thing then they would have the day off and I think that it should stay that way. I like relaxing on snow days because it is my day off and virtual learning would affect that.
