Virginia Shooting

A 32 year old man named isiah brown was shot by a deputy after responding to a domestic violence call. Brown was taken to a local hospital with serious but not life threatning injuries. The same deputy had taken brown home just an hour ago after responding to another call of a disabled motorist, The deputy took brown home from a gas station and then an hour later the same deputy shot him. Brown wasnt armed but pulled out his phone and it was mistaken for a gun and shots were taken.

Multiple attorneys had said that the shooting couldve been avoidable, That there was no way that you couldve mistaken a cordless house phone for a gun. The officer told dispatch that Brown had a gun to his head and the deputy told Brown many times to drop the gun and then a series of gunshots rang through the phone. Bodycam cam shows that this couldve have been prevented and the officer is on administrative hold as he is almost gone from being a sheriff.

Do you think you wouldve mistaken a phone for a gun?

How ironic is it that he gave him a ride just an hour ago and then shot him multiple times?

  • I don't know I understand how fast the officers have to react to those types of things but this is happening way to much you can't just think what ever someone pulls out is a weapon in this case I think I would not have mistaken the phone for a gun. I think if the police officer gave him a ride and he didn't pull a gun or what the cop thought then why would the cop think so after he dropped him off it its very ironic.

  • I don't think I would have mistaken a phone for a gun but i do understand how it may look like one depending on how its being held and how light it is outside. It is a bit crazy that it was the same guy he gave a ride an hour before the shooting.

  • Nobody should mistake a phone for a gun, and especially not a trained police officer. These mistakes are being made too often with police officers mistaking an object for a gun and immediately shooting them. This shows that the United States' police force needs more training. It's very sad that just an hour before the same officer gave him a ride home, only to shoot him several times later.

  • No I don't think I would have mistaken a phone for a gun and I'm not even a trained cop, I have no clue of how somebody could do that. If multiple attoneys and and the bodycam show that this could have been prevented, it's like that. It might be ironic that he acted like that but in the saddest way possible.

  • I think it was an accident, when you have somethings in your pockets you can't tell which item your grabbing for. I think its terrible of what happened to isiah, I'm shocked that someone would shoot a person that they gave a ride to even though it was an accident. I think the cop should've had his items in seperate pockets so he knew what to grab and what not to grab

  • In my opinion, I do think that a phone can be mistaken for a gun in a situation like this one. I do not think it was wise for that person to reach into their pocket to try to get something. Police officers see this as a threat. I think most people should know that. Overall, I think this event is unfortunate that it had to happen. I just think it was an officer trying to protect themself, especially because the viticum reached into his pocket.

  • Depends on the situation, I don't know why anyone with half a brain cell would reach into their pocket when they are pulled over. I think that it is definitely a little ironic that he had just given him a ride, but that is a very high stress situation he was in.

  • Depending on the situation, it's understandable  that when someone reaches into their pocket and pulls out something it could be mistaken for a gun. It's unfortunate that this accident happened and it shouldn't have. I don't  think I would've mistaken a phone for a gun, but the fact that he reached into his pocket and pulled it out makes sense.

  • If the phone had a black case on it or if it was black in general someone or anyone could've mistaken it for a gun. But if the phone is raised to his ear I think it would be hard to determine if it's a gun but if he's holding it in his lap or at his side away from eye view the cop would've had a valid reason for shooting. What this cop should've done is take a second to identify the situation.

  • Personally I would not mistake my gun for my phone. It is a little weird that he would give him a ride an hour prior. To me it doesn't look good on his case to have mistaken the phone for a gun. I am sure he will get charged with something and they will not be able to defend him very well.
