Veggie Orchestra in Vienna, Austria??

That's right, there is actually a musical orchestra that actually uses food as instruments! "The Vegetable Orchestra" was created in 1998 in Vienna, Austria. According to their website there actually is no leader, "there is none. we are a group of self-organized women and men working collaboratively on this project." They buy their "instruments" from local food markets. They use drills, knives, and other kitchen tools to create their instruments. After "The Vegetable Orchestra" are done performing a concert, they use the left over vegetables (that they don't use) to create soup to give to the audience. Their most recent concert was on September 17th in Bonn, Germany.

What do you think about this?

If you could, would you go to a concert?

I think this is a pretty good idea. I wouldn't think about a vegetable being an instrument like that's actually really cool. I absolutely would probably go to one of their concerts.

  • Good summary but you didn't reply to any comments which is worth 20 points.

  • I think that is absolutely incredible. For sure it's crazy but craziness is what makes art. It is a unique technique and I believe they get a full audience by doing something no one ever did an no one ever thought of. It's amazingly creative. It's also a great idea to not waste the vegetables after using them by making food for the listeners. I would totally go there just because of their singularity and because it sounds interesting, even though I do not believe that the music is as good as with normal instruments. But I would love to get my mindset changed.

  • I think that it is cool that they are using this, it's pretty innovative and I personally wouldn't have thought of it. If given the chance I definitely would go to a concert.

  • This is interesting but I don't know what to think about this is the food sounding like instruments? I don't think I would want to waist my money on this but I think it might be a cool idea.

  • This is an interesting idea, but I wonder how musical it actually sounds...I would love to go to a concert if I had the chance! I could hear the music and possibly learn more about the instruments and music. Plus, the soup probably wouldn't taste bad either.

  • I think that this is a pretty unique idea. I've never heard of them, even though they have been around for quite awhile. Making soup for the audience with the leftover veggies is a good idea. Food and entertainment. I think I would go to the concert just because I'm interested in how they manage to create music.

  • I think that this is a very awesome and creative idea and I would never have imagined using vegetables as instruments. If I had a chance than I would for sure go to a concert.

  • I think that this may be creative but I think it is nothing that would interest me. The only way I would go is if it was nearby and was free and other people I knew were going.

  • I think that it is creative, but I think that it's not a good idea. I might go to a concert if it was free and was somewhere nearby. Otherwise I would rather do something else.

  • I think this is a really creative way to make music, and could attract a very different audience than most music. Yes, I would go to a concert, because I would love to see people performing with musical instruments made from veggies.
