Vaccine Passports?

Ever since Covid-19 shut everything down, we have been trying to open back up and get back to normal. Maybe vaccine passports could be the answer to opening up safely and efficiently. Vaccine passports are proof that someone has been vaccinated for Covid-19. It could be in the form of an app or a written certificate. Vaccine Passports are basically tickets that allow entry into a crowded event like a concert or baseball game. They are mainly being pushed by democrats, they believe that proof of immunization could be the key to getting back to normal. Many Republicans don’t like this idea because it forces people to get the vaccine if they want to go to an event, and they believe that people should be able to choose whether or not to get the vaccine.

There are other versions of the vaccine passport still in use today. Since 1969, the Yellow Card has been a document for travelers to show proof of yellow fever vaccination and other shots. Back in 1897, a Scientist from Russia created a vaccine for the plague. Soon after, there was talk about showing proof of vaccination. There were also smallpox vaccination certificates that were issued by the South Asian government that were required to travel.

Personally, I am not a big fan of the idea, because I believe that people should be able to choose to get the vaccine. However, it is still possible to get into an event without a vaccine passport. You could also have proof of a negative Covid test to get in. Vaccine passports could also hurt business owners, it will make it more difficult for people to go out and do something. New York was the first state to use vaccine passports, and it is quickly gaining popularity. It may not be too long before everyone has to be vaccinated to travel or go to a ball game.

Do you think vaccine passports are a good idea? Why or Why not?

  • Great topic choice and well done Ian!

  • I think that if the United States were to put in a vaccine passport it would take away people's ability to choose whether or not they got the covid vaccine. If people are not able to do anything since they are not vaccinated they will probably be strong-armed into getting the vaccine

  • I do not see why the United States would want to put a vaccine passport in place. The United States currently does not have a card or piece of paper that you have to carry around staying that you were vaccinated for any other diseases, that are much more deadly than covid.

  • I do not think that vaccine passports are not a good idea. Like you had talked about in the article, this could lead to people who choose to not be vaccinated or had the option to be vaccinated being left not being able to travel.

  • I think that vaccine passports is a pretty good idea because it helps keep people from getting covid. But I think that people should get to choose if they want the vaccine or not.  I think that if they do something like that they should only require it for big events that will have a large amount of people.  I wonder if at these events if people will still have to wear mask.

  • No I don't think the vaccination should be required to go out of the country because of the effects that it causes to some of the people that have got the shot. However if someone does want to get the shot they should have the right to get the shot.Everyone should have there own opion.

  • I think that people should be able to have the choice to get the vaccine, it is not something to be forced just yet because there are so many against it and yet there are many for it. Forcing people to get it by threatening the freedom of travel is unreasonable and it should not be something that splits the population.

    • I totally agree with you I think that it should not be forced yet.  It is not a terrible idea but I think they could come up with a better way to do something like that which will not force people to get the vaccine.  Like you said their are way to many people against and for it right now.

  • I dont think it would be a good idea because we dont know enough about the vaccine. We know some people have gotten sick from the vaccine so I dont think its the best idea because not everyone is safe from getting the vaccine.

    • I agree that we are in the early stages of the vaccines and it could be dangerous to force everyone to get the vaccine.
