Vaccine Opinions

We are a year into COVID-19 and we finally have a vaccine being distributed. Many people are choosing to be vaccinated while others are choosing not to. Even if people choose to get the vaccine, they will still need to wear a mask and be 6 feet away from others. Which, I believe, is the reason why some people do not want to get vaccinated. Another reason is no one knows the side effects after many years. Which I understand, and it is scary because we don’t know if there are side effects that are serious.

Getting the vaccine is very encouraged. In many cases you need the vaccine for specific things. Many flights in and out of countries or around the country will require vaccines. Unless you don’t want a vacation with flights, you will need a vaccine. The vaccine has also been proven to be over 95% effective. Yes, it is not 100%, but it is still pretty good odds. This will, obviously, protect you from the virus. Which will be nice to not have to take two weeks off from our daily activities and possibly feel awful.

Though we have a vaccine, scientists still don’t know everything about it and its symptoms. One thing we do not know is how long it will protect us from the virus. It may only last two weeks or two years. Only time will tell and tests. Also, trying to figure out how protective the vaccine is hard to tell. Everyone’s body and immune system is different. Some people may work well with the vaccine while others don’t. Finally, we know it can protect ourselves from the virus, but the people around us will be at risk of us spreading it to them.

Obviously there are positives and negatives to this vaccine. There will also be a good side and a bad side to every decision. For the most part, getting the vaccine is optional. There are situations where they will be required. For example flying and traveling and I am sure for some jobs they will be required. When I get the option to get one I will take it. Yes, there  may be side effects, but I would like to be protected from this virus and return to normal as fast as possible.

When you get the chance, will you get the vaccine? Why or why not?

What rumor or fact have you heard that causes a little concern?

  • Good topic choice and well done Aurora!

  • I would get the vaccine if I was able to because I would be able to go more places without having to worry very much about if I would get the virus or not. Having an anti-vax parent I have heard many bad things about vaccines and they have tried to convince me many times that vaccines are bad, but I think they are more productive than they are anti-productive.

  • Yes I will get the vaccine because I don't want to be afraid about getting the virus and I will feel a lot more comfortable about going to big places if I got the vaccine. Ive heard people say that it will give it to you and most people don't want to get it because doctors dont know everything about the vaccine and that might scare some people.

  • I believe that scientists and medical professionals are professionals for a reason. I think it's quite ignorant to not take the oppertunity to protect yourself and others from a virus that has affected so many people in such a negative way. There are a lot of conspiracies saying that the vaccines are awful for us, but hear me out, maybe it's just a vaccine intended to help return our world to a save covid-free place.

  • I'm not really sure if i should or will get the covid vaccine at all because I have heard alot of people have gotten sick after recieving the vaccine which makes me a little worried if I did decide to get it, but I know that it probably wouldn't hurt me.

    • I would understand why you wouldn't get the vaccine, but many people who have received the vaccine said it wasn't as bad as people think. Most people say it was jus a sore arm and being a little tired. But there is only one way to find out.

  • I will be getting a chance to get the vaccine in the future because I am a health care worker, but I'm still conflicted as to whether I should get it or not. Obviously, it would be highly beneficial to me and the people around me, but my parents have been influencing my opinion a lot so I haven't really made a final decision. I'm leaning more towards getting it though.

    • I hope your parents allow you to choose whether or no tyou get it. I would if I were a health care worker, and I would think they are required when they are given out to our age group. I understadn that there are many positives and negatives, but for me I am just focused on the positives.

  • I'm not sure whether or not I will get the vaccine. Everyone always makes jokes about growing a third arm and another eyeball, but in reality that obviously won't happen. I would get it if I needed to travel though. The fact that i've heard of a lot of people getting sick from the vaccine raises some concern, but I know its not going to kill me.

    • I agree. I was skeptical at first but then I relaized the side effects will probably just last for a day or two. I plan on traveling later this year and if getting a vaccine is required then I know I got it for a good reason.
