Stinney's family wants to clear their sons name. Around 70 years ago, George Stinney was executed at only 14. The execution happened in South Carolina. He's the youngest person to be put to death by a U.S. state since the 1800s. The family wants another trial.
George was a black teen who confessed to murdering two white girls. They were ages 7 and 11. The jury on his trial were all white, and they convicted him in a prompt 10 minutes. In as few as three months time he was put in an electric chair, too big for his 95 pound body. He confessed, and talked about the killing on a couple different occasions. Yet he has a set of other people say he told them a different story. There are many controversies in this story. People said he was old enough to know better, bringing it up again is foolishness. What do you think? Do you think he committed this crime? Based on what I've read it seems like it could go both ways. Do you think the verdict had anything to do with racism? Great job once again!
I say that the reason for his execution was completely racism. They should of had African-Americans on the jury. They should totally start the trial up again. Yes, he committed a crime, but he shouldn't of been executed, plus he was only 14.
You have a lot of good points. It would help immensely if he were still alive.
I think they jurors made a decision way too fast for racism to not have a part in this. I don't think he should have been put to death, and I think they should have had more trials instead of jumping to conclusions.
I don't understand why they are just now bringing up this case again? Yes they want to clear his name, but it's in the past and done. I think they should just let the case be and focus on what is going on now.
I think he was old enough to know that killing someone is wrong and I think he did commit this crime since he confessed to it. I also think racism had something to do with this and that they should have tried to clear his name sooner.
I think that he did this crime but his punishment shouldn't go to far because i dont think people need to be put to death.
Wow the way he killed these girls are brutal. 7 blows to one of the girls skull and the other girl had a total crushed skull. I really think he did commit the murder, I don't think you would confess if you didn't. Its sad to think these things are still happening today.
I think he probably confessed killing them because he was too young, and black, to get out of that mess. Because he is darker-skinned, and the court officials were white, it set up a disadvantageous trail. He was also put into an electric chair! I think they deserve to make a retrial!
He was so little they had to place him on books, so he would fit in the chair!
