Update On Covid-19

Hospitals are continuing to have covid-19 tests coming back positive. “Officials continue to brace for another expected wave of cases, hospitalizations and deaths in coming weeks originating from Thanksgiving gatherings.” Since people gather on ThanksGiving with their families from other towns or different states, more covid is being spread.

COVID-19 risk assessment tool: What to expect anywhere - Los Angeles Times

This map is the % rate of risk level of most likely to get covid. The midwest has a higher percent and it is in the range of 75-99% for high risk. The southern states have a lower percentage for getting covid.  The southern states have a lower percentage for getting covid. The age range of people that have some of the states are around their 20s. “People in their 20s still make up the age bracket with the state’s largest number of confirmed cases.” The amount of people in high schools that are confirmed has also gotten larger. “with more than 26,800 total cases among children ages 15 to 19 since the pandemic began.” Read it here.

What are your thoughts of the high risk states and what do you think they should do about it?

I think that the higher risk states should make more precautions and shut down non-essential places.

Do you have any family members that came to see you or you went to see on thanksgiving?

My sister came home from college from her break and it was the weekend before thanksgiving.

  • While your summary is a tad brief overall, you did a good jon overall Erin!

  • I believe the high risk states should just continue of what they are doing, because there is no way to slow spread. The only way to slow the spread is with a vaccine, and that will be coming out soon. But, the ones at risk should stay to protect themseleves, but others that are healthy want to live their lives.

  • If you are a high risk state you should have masks manitory, have nonessential stores close, don't let big gatherings in public places.  We went to visit one of my grandparents but we could not visit the other grandparents because they were in quarantine because my aunt had covid and my grandparents were exposed to her.

  • I think that since new evidence shows that the corona virus is probably less deadly than the common cold, we should stop making a huge deal about it and go about our lives. I also think that it is absolutely ridiculous to try to shut down buisnesses, because any buisness that provides an income to the owner is essential. The owner cannot make money to survive without it.

  • I think its terrible because Iowa has the worst positivity rate out of all of the states putting so many people at risk of infection and death. I followed the cdc guidlines and only visited a few family members close by. I think that with christmas there will be a way higher chance of Covid spreadinfg thoughout the world. SOmething needs to be done to stop the people going against the guidelines.

  • I think that the higher risk states should enforce better regulations/precautions because it's just completely ridiculous how high the Covid-19 cases are in that general area in the midwest. I'm surprised it's not worse in California because I've seen lots of "covid parties" which is just celebrities/youtubers etc. throwing unnecessary parties. I didn't see anyone besides my household on Thanksgiving.

  • I think that high risk states should have restrictions put on them to help lower the cases in their states. If the states put restrictions on their people cases would slowy start to drop. I didn't have any family that came to see my family from out of state nor did my family go to visit family from out of state.

    • I agree that the rate will slowly drop with more precations.

  • I think that these high risk states should take a little more procaution and people should wear masks more often when oing out in public to the store or some other place that doesn't require a mask, but wear one. I went to  my grandmas house and she didn't seem to be worried about covid neither did my grandpa or my family.

  • I think that a mask madate might not be a terrible idea. I think that shutting down non-essential places is a very poor idea. Many of these businesses are already nearly going bankrupt, I also think if we shut down again it could have an impact on mental health.
