Around 1:30 pm, an Uber driver was on his way to pick up someone in San Francisco when his navigation told him to drive down the stairs of the sidewalk. The man had only been driving for Uber for under a year. A tow truck arrived at the scene and tried to get the car off of the stairs around 3 pm. However, the cable attached to the car snapped causing the car to hit a city trash can breaking it entirely. No one was injured in the incident and it was undecided whether the driver would be cited or not.

Why do you think the navigation told him to turn onto the stairs?
Do you think the driver should be cited? Explain why or why not.
My answers: I think that the satellite must have detected the staircase as a road causing the navigating to malfunction. I also think the driver should be cited by the police seeing as he drove his car down a staircase in broad daylight.

Well done Dani!
It must not have been an updated version of the streets and roads throughout the city. It honeslty could've been a malfunction or human error and the uber driver made up this story.
I dont know why this navigation system had a malfunction. Some of the technogloy today is very complex and it can't always be trusted. Technology is not perfect and it is bound to mess up. He drove down these stairs in daylight and he could have prevented this so I think he should be cited.
Im not sure why the navigation system would tell the driver to go down the stairs. I do think he should have ot pay for the trash can if it was his fault. Or a company that was incharge of the car hitting it.
1. Because where he suppose to go maybe was next to th stair area.
2. I thnk so if theres a stair and if it say to turn to the stair don't do it.
The satelite systems might have been going through some alfunctions and gave incorrect directions, and yes he should be cited considering it'd be common sense on not to drive on anything that isn't apart of the road.
I agree with that. The navigation probably did tell him to turn and go down the stairs but he should've had common sense.
I think the navigation told him to turn onto the stairs as a mistake/malfunction and might not of recognized the stairs as a road and not a staircase. It also might've just been taking him the fastest route and not knowing there was stairs. I think the driver should be cited because if he can drive a car, he can tell the difference between a road and a staircase.
The navigation could've told him to drive down the stairs but he drove down the stairs in broad daylight and should be cited.
Im not sure it was probably just a glitch in the system and should be looked into. Idk maybe he should be cited he should have used more common sense and be able to look at his surrondings to see that he was even approaching stairs.
