Two teens charged with arson in Tennesse

Two juveniles have been charged with aggravated arson in connection with the fires that killed 14 people, injured nearly 150 others, and damaged or destroyed more than 2,400 properties. During an investigation, information was developed that two juveniles allegedly started the fire. Both were taken into custody Wednesday and are being held at the Sevier County Juvenile Detention Center.

1. What would you do if you accidentally started a fire and it got out of hand like this? Explain.

2. Do you think the teens should be held responsible for all those deaths and injuries? Why or why not?

I think if something like this happened to me I would confess and just explain what happened. I think the teens should be responsible for those deaths, but maybe not like an adult would.

  • I would have called 911, you always call 911 when there is fire bigger than a candle.  Yes cause it could have been prevented if you called 911. plus they had no business being there.

  • If I accidentally did something like this, I would do everything in my power to stop it before it got out of control. I would also right away explain what happened. If it truly was an accident, then they should not be punished for the deaths and injuries. They probably feel awful enough. If it was found that they had a different motive, then that would be a different story.

  • I would call for help ASAP to try to take care of the fire quick as possible. I dont think they should be able to put them in jail but make them give back to the community and help the families of those who were killed and injured

  • Well I would start by calling the police and letting them handle it. But I would freak out and be near watching. Not for all of them but they knew what they were doing.

  • I would report it as soon as I knew I couldn't put it out. I think that accidents happen all of the time and if a three year old starts a fire they aren't held responsible. This is still no reason for them to be playing with fire though.

  • I would tell someone right away instead of waiting and then getting charged for it. Yes I think they should they started it, and they didn't let anyone know about it.

  • I would call 911 that way I at least did something about it. They didn't do anything about it so I can see how it would be bad. Accidents happem, but this is a huge accident. I don't think they should be held responsible for all of it but for some of it.

  • If I accidentally started a fire, I would call 911 and get the fire department there ASAP. That way, people would know it was and accident and I wouldn't be charged of arson. I think the teens should be held responsible for their deaths if they started the fire deliberately. Probably should be sentenced to some time in juvie.

  • I would of contacted the police told them what happened I would never have started a fire because I wanted to.  Yeah, because they knew about the fire and they didn't do anything about it...
