On March 16, 2021, Robert Long went to three different spas in Atlanta, Georgia. He then shot 8 people, 7 of them being women. After investigators looked into the shooting they found that 6 of the women were Asian. Some people question if this was a hate crime or if it was just a coincidence that most of them were Asian women. I think that it was probably a hate crime. With the Covid-19 pandemic happening, many people needed something to blame and they blamed it on Asia, mostly China. Even if the pandemic was never a thing, many people throughout the world are prejudice and reckless and blame their problems on other ethnic groups. A perfect example of this is Hitler. He could not deal with the loss of WWI and blamed it on the Jews. That is why I believe this was a hate crime.
Also, on March 16, 2021, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa went into a gun store in Arvada, Colorado, and purchased a Ruger AR-556 which is "regulated like a pistol." Then a week later he drove 30 minutes to Boulder, Colorado, where he shot and killed ten people in a grocery store. Some people blame these deaths on the store that sold the gun. The gun store stated that the man passed the background check. When people questioned him he stated, "ensuring every sale that occurs at our shop is lawful, has always been and will always remain the highest priority for our business." I believe in the second amendment, I just think that we need to be doing background checks to keep the second amendment viable.
Obviously during the pandemic everyone has been dealing with different things and it was different for everyone. As the country reverts back to its normal way of functioning, those people with problems during the pandemic will be revealed. These shootings are perfect examples of what can happen when you have these mental problems and can't get help becaue of the pandemic. Experts say that we will see a rise in mass shootings as we get out of the pandemic and these are just the start of it.
Do you think that we should tighten the gun market securit?
Do you think that mental problems are a good excuse for something like this?

Well done Reilly!
I’m sure this would break the confidentiality laws, but I think gun shop owners, as part of the background check, should try and talk to family members of the person just to make sure they aren’t trying to hide something. The family members may possibly know if the person who is buying a gun would be safe to have it. I don’t know the process for purchasing a gun, but I hope that gun shops take all of the necessary precautions when selling guns. I do not think that a mental illness is a reason to go shoot people or gives someone an excuse to go shoot people. If someone is diagnosed with a mental illness, it is best to follow the treatment that is prescribed so that we can possibly reduce shootings like this from taking place. Also, people shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help if they feel that they have a mental illness. Maybe some of these shootings are taking place because mental illnesses aren’t getting treated.
I think that the gun market security should be tighten up because it isn't the guns that kill the innocent people it is the people that fire the guns that are the ones killling are the ones killiing and they should be the ones that are punished for the way that acted and guns should not be banned.
I agree that it is not the guns who kill, but the people. However, they are using these weapons to kill.
I don't think that mental problems are a good excuse for this but I believe that in some cases they are part of the reason why these shooting are happening. In America they were happening even before the pandemic, so I am not saying that the pandemic is the cause of shootings but this difficult situation might have played a part in some people's (already unstable) mental health, causing these tragedies.
I think that it is very important to do good backround checks on people before allowing them to get guns. I think there should be more restrictions for who can purchase guns so things like this don't happen. I don't think that we should take away the right of guns.
I think that it's very difficult for the government to regulate who gets to own guns and who doesnt. I think very good background checks on people is very important, and maybe they could tighten up a little bit. Mental issues are a very big problem in America, and I think it is the reason for many of the shootings that have happened.
I think that it could be difficult to completely regulate who gets to own guns and who doesn't, but I think if we enforce it better it could still decrease the numbers of shootings.
I think there should be more restrictions on who can purchase a gun, but our second ammendment right allows us to own guns. More precautions and background checks should be made before a gun is able to be purchased. However, we shouldn't take away the right to guns completely.
Yes. I think their should be more security when it comes to background checks and buying a gun. It would decrease the amount of people who shouldn't have gun from getting one and doing anything bad with it. I think mental problems aren't a good excuse, as anyone with mental problems shouldn't have a gun in the first place.
