Trump's Hurricane Report

At the beginning of this week President Trump Tweeted about Hurricane Dorian. In this Tweet he announced that the hurricane would hit Alabama. However, as we all have seen, the path of the storm heads north along the coast. President Trump later posted a video showing an altered and outdated weather forcast of the hurrican hitting Alabama to cover up his false prediction. In the video he showed a poster of the path of Dorian by the NHC (National Hurricane Center). However, on this poster there is an extension to the path of the hurricane which appears to be made by a Sharpie. Over the past few days this has been widely made fun of by social media and comedic late night shows. To read more about Trump's Hurricane Report click here.

If you were the presidet and you made a simple mistake like this would you go to such great lengths to cover it up? Why or why not?

No, if I were president and I made a simple mistake such as this I would just admit that I mispoke or was wrong, to avoid humiliation.

Do you think this makes Trump look weak because he cannot admit that he was wrong? Why or why not?

Yes, I think it shows greater strength to admit that you are wrong than to deny it and continue adding on to your mistake.

  • Good story choice and well done Owen!

  • I would probably admit to my mistake aand get over it. no I just think he dosent like to look domb and he dosen't like to admit to his mistakes like a lot of other americans.

  • If I were president, I would own up to my mistake. Everyone makes simple mistakes like this and no one is important. Covering it up would make the situation worse. This does make him seem weaker since he isn't owning up to his mistakes. Admitting you are wrong about something shows you are willing to move forward and leave that mistake behind.

  • 1.) No, if I was the president and I made a simple mistake such as this I would admit that I spoke incorrectly and I would continue on.
2.) Yes, I think it shows courage if you just admit that you were wrong than to deny it and continue to add to your own mistake.

  • No, a small mistake is nothing to be embarassed about, and I don't think they needed to go this far to cover it up. They could have just corrected the mistake and moved on. I don't think anyone would have said anything negative about Trump or his administration had they done this.

    • Yes, that is true, if he would have just admitted his mistake and corrected it then no one would have even said anything about it and he could have avoided further humiliation. Instead he had to prove he was right, which he was not, and cause extra confusion and worry to the people living near the storm.

  • If I was the president, I probably wouldn't of talked about where the hurricane was hitting and just of said what action we were planning to take. There are many more people qualified to talk about the path of the hurricane, and Trump is not one of them. I don't know if it necessarily makes him "weak" that he can't admit he is wrong, but I do think it makes him look childish.

    • If I were president I would have informed what states were going to be hit so that those people could prepare for the storm. However, I wouldn't have tried to cover it up because then people in Alabama would be worrying even though they didn't need to be.

  • No, I would probably just admit I made a mistake and joke about it with the rest of the people, because there is no need to go that far to cover up a little mistake like that.I think it makes him look not so good because he can't even admit that he messed up and was wrong about something.

    • I agree with you he needed to just admit he was wrong and continue on with his life. Instead he had to make a big deal about the situation and try to prove to everyone that he was right, even though he was wrong.
