I think it's because he feels the need to get rid of and prevent these "illegal aliens" from coming in and "stealing our jobs". Like you said it would prevent wildife migration and also it going through the big bend national park which is hurting the enviroment and is very unesscesary.
I think that trump is building this wall because he wants all the people who do illegal stuff to not come into the US, but its not going stop them becasue some people will just climb the wall. I don't think it will have any impacts i think it will just cause problems.
Trump believes that in order to help protect our country from illegal immigrants who might commit violent crimes, building a wall will stop them.
