Trump Intends to End Birthright Citizen Ship

Donald Trump, the president of the U.S, claimed in an interview that he was planning to go against the 14th amendment with an executive order to end birthright citizenship. His reasoning behind this is to keep pregnant, illegal women from coming into the country and having their babies.  This broke outrage throughout congress and citizens of America. Many people believe that he can't complete this with an executive order, but Trump is determined that he can. As midterms approach, Trump is making it about illegal immigration and this was one of the things he brought up.  More than 4 million children are living in America with at least one undocumented parent. These children are sometimes referred to as "anchor babies." These children are spread out across the U.S and some are even living in our hometowns.

Do you think Trump will be able to go against the constitution with an executive order and if he can what will this mean for the future of the constitution?

I do not think it will get passed, but if it were to get passed then Trump and presidents that will come after him could potentially just pass an executive order for more things that go against the constitution. Then we would no longer have or follow a constitution, which could cause big issues in the future.

Who do you believe is in support of this idea and who do you think disagrees with it?

I believe that democrats, Latinos, and young people make up the majority of people who are against this. Republicans would be more for this but on this issue, I think it's more split within the republican party.

  • Good job Kelsi!

  • I don't think that he will be successful with that because it has been like that for a long time and also many people seem to be against it so I guess there would be a lot of protests if he really would try to change that.

Probably all immigrants or families who just could have stayed because of their children would stand up agains it and maybe more conservative or "nationalistic" people would support that idea

  • No I dont think Trump will be able to do this and if he does then that will lead to childern growing up in a home where they might be brought right into drugs or gun violence and they dont have a say in it. I think democrats go aginst it becasue its part og the constitution that if your born in the U.S. you are a citizen and its probably not gonna pass to change that law.

    • I like how you really thought about the question and answered differently. I agree children will have a much worse life if this passes. I personally have heard stories from children that were born here but their parents are illegal and without being in the U.S. there life would be much worse.

  • I believe that if your illegal, you should have to go back and out of this country no matter if your parents were illegal because the kid is then illegal to. If they really want to come back, they come into this country the right way and there won't be problems.

    • This would be the ideal process but unfortunately the test to become a citizen is very hard and costly. Many of American citizens wouldn't even be able to pass it. Also, it takes a long time to actually become a citizen the right way that is why many immigrants do it illegally.

  • I don't think it will get passed because there are so many people that are against it and it will hard for it to get done. I think the people that are against this are the democrats becasue they are extremely accepting of all people. Republicans want more people here but they want them to come in legaly.

    • Yes, I agree that Republicans want people to be here but they want them to do so illegally. I think people come here illegally because it is long and hard to become a citizen so I believe we should change the process.

  • I don't think Trump will be able to pull away with doing this. It's too long of a process has to go through a lot of people who have to approve the executive order. The people that are against this are definitely the democrats and people living here with "anchor babies".

  • I don't think he will be able too. I agree if he does go against the constitution, how many future presidents will go against amendments on the Constitution. I think Democrats will be for this.
