Attorney Generals from 16 states are suing the Trump administration for an "unlawful and unconstitutional" declaration of a national emergency. The states that are suing the Trump administration are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is leading the push to stop the President's national emergency. After Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the border, he predicted that his administration would see lawsuits, but it did not bother him because he believes that the Supreme Court will back him up. The national emergency allows the White House to use $3.6 billion in military construction, $2.5 billion from counternarcotics initiatives, and $601 million from a Treasury Department forfeiture fund for the border wall. This most likely will not cover all the expenses that Donald Trump wants for his wall, but it is definitely a start and is way better than what the Democrats were willing to give. Although some Republicans started out unsure about the national emergency, many are starting to support the move.
What are your thoughts about the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump?
I honestly wished that they could have made a better deal before Donald Trump had to declare a national emergency. It would have been better if he did not need to take money away from other important things.
Do you believe that more states will follow and sue the Trump administration? Why or why not?
I do not believe more states will get involved, but I am surprised that some of the more Democratic states are not already involved. For example, a state like Illinois that voted for Hillary Clinton in the Presidential Election, has a democratic governor, and the majority of its congress people are democratic.

Well done Alex!
I think he could have tried to make a deal before resorting to a national emergency, but he is doing what he thinks he needs to do. In blue are the states that voted Democrat in the 2016 Presidential election, and in green are the states suing Trump. There is a direct correlation. I think they are making this about politics and attacking Trump instead of actually worrying about this being unconstitutional.
I like your use of maps to show how pretty much the states that voted against Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential election and the states that are suing Donald Trump are closely related.
1. i dont really care since every president has declared a national emergency since the ability to declare national emergencies was granted in 1976
2. no considering he hasnt really done anything wrong or unconstitutional.
I agree that so far President Donald Trump has done nothing wrong. He has the power to declare a national emergency so when the Democrats did not like his deal, he did what he and I think will help this country.
I am 50/50. I can kinda see why we need a wall. But then again there are times where I don't like the idea. All in all I don't think it was right to declare a national emergency. Trump should of tired to make a better deal or compromise before he took that step. It's not impossible that other states could sue him, and I wouldn't be shocked if they did.
I agree that there should have been a better deal made, but I do not believe that Donald Trump was to be blamed. Donald Trump offered the Democrats things they have wanted for a while like DACA.
I wish that the Supreme Court along with the rest of the government could have settled on a better compromise or plan to build a wall. I think that Trump is going to succeed in doing so whether some people like it or not. Declaring a national emergency might be a sign of that. As of right now, I don't think that any other states will choose to sue the Trump administration.
I also believe that this wall will be put up eventually it is just when will the two sides finally give in to a deal that makes sense for each party.
I agree with you that they definitely could of made a better deal so that Donald Trump would not have to declare a national emergency. It would be nicer if he did not have to take out money from other departments. I don't think that other states will sue the Trump administration, but it could still happen.
