Troops Ordered to Parking Garage After the Inauguration

On the day of the Inauguration 5,000 troops were ordered to take a mandatory break in a parking garage near the White House. Of these 5,000 men, there was one bathroom that they had to share. However, after further investigation, it was noted that these men were not ordered by a senator. These men were ordered to take their break by police officers who had no authority to order the men around. Senator James Infohe of Oklahoma stated, "We are going to be able to identify who that person was." This was said after many statements had been released after the investigation had begun.

One Guardman told the press that during the inauguration political officials took pictures with the men and shook their hands. However, within 24 hours they banished the men to a parking garage. He stated, "We feel incredibly betrayed." After this information was released, four governers recalled their National Guard Troops out of D.C. These states include Florida, New Hampshire, Montana, and Texas. Madison Cawthorn, a Republican Representative, caught wind of the troops' situation and bought all of the men pizza. He stated, "The men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our liberties deserve to be treated with honor, dignity, and respect."

Do you think it was right for the soldiers to be out in the parking gargae? Why or why not?

If you were a politician that held power, what would you have done to treat the soldiers, if anything?

  • Good topic choice Savannah! I do think your summary is a tad brief and I would also like to see more of your thoughts and opinions within it. Normanlly this would be late by two days whcih would be -20 but due to the snow days, I will only take off -10.

  • I disagree with this completely. 5,000 troops with only one bathroom is insane. I don't understand why anyone would send the people that do so much for this country to a parking garage. They could have been sent somewhere that they would be more comfortable. The men and women that were put in these garages have done the most for our country. They fight for our rights and freedoms everyday. They should recieve only respect from the people in this country.

    • I completely agree with you. These men and women have sacrificed everything for the American people to be free. I do not understand why we continue to treat them like they are nothing in this world when they do so much.

  • I do not agree with putting these men and women in a parking garage. They should have the most respect from every person in this country. They have fought for the rights and freedom for the people of the United States of America. I think we need to honor these men and women in every way we can. Overall, I do not think it was right to put all those troops in a parking garage.

  • I don't think it makes sense to put them in a garage and even I think it is a bit disrespectful to them.  They protect our country with honor I think we can do them a little bit better.  If I was a politician I would try to find a better place for them.

  • I believe it doesn't make sense for them to be put in a parking garage. Why woul dthey be tehre and not out protecting people and things? I would have them be put in a nicer area with rooms, bathrooms, eating areas so they are comfortable.

  • I do not agree with these men and women being sent to a parking garage. Not only are they in a parking garage, but only 1 bathroom for 5,000 troops. I strongly agree with the quote you have at the end of the second paragraph. These men and women put there lives on the line to defend our country. They deserve great respect.

    • I agree with you because these men and women deserve to be treated better. They are putting their lives at risk everyday and people continue to treat them like they are nothing in this world. I also really agree with the quote. The quote shows that there are still people who support our troops.

  • I don't like that they put 5,000 troops in one parking garage with only one bathroom. It doesn't matter if the weather was good or bad our troops deserve more respect than that. These men and women go and fight for our freedom, they risk their lives for ours. They should be well respected in any community that they are in. They should not have been told by police to go out into a parking garage. This somewhat proves, that when other people come in from higher authority. That the lower authority gets to call all of the shots because it is there home. However, the troops go through many hours of training for situations like this one.

    • I agree with you in the first part. However I disagree with you when you say that lower authority is calling the shots. I very much believe that higher power people call the shots most of the time. People just choose to listen to lower authority when the higher authority is telling them what to do.
