Trees

According to a recent study done, trees can drop hot daytime tempters by 10 degrees Fahrenheit. But in US cities the tree population in urban and rural communities is extremely decreasing due to the growing population of America. David Nowak, from the US Forest Service scientist and the co-author of the study says that if America continues this path “cities will become warmer, more polluted and generally unhealthier for inhabitants.” He also says that if we keep doing what were doing, like cutting down trees to add a building or a parking lot our air quality will worsen. “Every time we put a road down, we put a building and we cut a tree or add a tree, it not only affects that site, it affects the region”-Nowak. There are so many benefits to trees in our communities like air pollution reduction, energy emissions reduction. Water quality improvement, trees act like a filter taking out the dirty surface water and absorbing things in the water like nitrogen and phosphorus into the soil. Flooding reduction, it absorbs the water and can reduce the runoff into streams, noise reduction, trees can deflect sound. Protection from UV radiation, trees absorb 96% if ultraviolet radiation. Improved human health, and most importantly wildlife habitat. If we continue taking trees away the population of not just human life is at risk, but all sorts of animal species will be affected dramatically.
