Tree Loss: The Impact On the Planet

Tree loss impacts U.S. citizens more than the usual human relizes. The U.S. Forest Service found that 36 million trees were lost annually from urban and rural communities. This was over a five year period. Tree loss can have a huge impact on the planet, and the impact will not be in a good way. David Nowak, a U.S. Forest Service scientist, stated, “Cities will become warmer, more polluted and generally more unhealthy for inhabitants.”

Tree loss happens for many reasons. A reason for tree loss is environmental reasons. This can come naturally or from humans. Other reasons are catastrophic events, harvest of trees, and harmful insects and pests. These also can come naturally or from humans.

There are many reasons trees benefit the planet. Some reasons are heat, air pollution, energy emissions, and noise reduction. Other benefits are protection from UV radiation, trees improve human health, and finally they can help with wildlife habitats.Trees are a huge benefit for the planet, and the people who live on the planet.

Some ways you can help with tree loss is chop the dead limbs off of trees, don’t remove old trees if not necessary, and allow trees to grow on your property. Also volunteering or donating to tree planting organizations. All these ways can help prevent causing more tree loss in the United States.

Overall, tree loss can have a big impact right now and even in the future. I do not think the normal U.S. citizen realizes how big of an impact it can have on the planet. I think we need  to start saving trees so the impact is not as big in the future. I also think this goes for every environmental problem. We need to start now so the planet can have a better future.

Questions-

Do you think tree loss has a big impact on the plant? Explain your reasoning.

If we start trying to prevent tree loss today, do you think it will have a big impact on the future for the planet? Explain your reasoning.

  • Great topic choice and well done Ryleigh!

  • Tree loss has a huge impact on the Earth. They provide numerous benefits for the planet such as clean air and animal habitats. I think that anything being done to prevent tree loss now will make for a better future, but I also think that more needs to be done.

    • I agree with you that tree loss has a big impact on the Earth. They do provide numerous benefits for the planet. I think people do not think of how much trees really do provide us. Like you said, clean air and animal habitats. Trees also provide paper and structure for some buildings. I also agree that we need to start doing more to prevent tree loss.

  • I do believe that tree loss is a huge issue that is harming us and our environment. Trees help with our oxygen, habitats for animals, and a resource for food. I think we should do something about it soon because animals are becoming endangered because of this.

    • I also believe that tree loss is a huge issue that is harming the environment. Trees do help with our oxygen, habitats for animals, and are a resource for food. I agree with you that we need to do something about tree loss soon. It is having too many negative effects on the planet's health, and animals that live on this planet.

  • I believe that if we start reversing our current path, we could actually make a difference. We could sat away from the 2 degrees celcius average warming that the EU is attempting to avoid.

    • I agree with you that we need to start reversing our current path.  I think if we keep heading in this direction, the Earth is not going to be a nice place to live in the future. I think we need to start taking steps to prevent tree loss from happening. I also think this can be said for anything that is hurting our Earth. If we can prevent things from hurting our Earth, I think we should try then.

  • I believe that our incessant urge to destroy our planet needs to be diverted to something else that furthers humanity as a whole. The recycling of greenhouse gasses has been greatly reduced due to it. A good way to show just how much damage we've done to the Earth is to look as satellite images of rainforest over time.

    • I do not think we have an urge to destroy our planet. I just think people don't realize how bad some things are that we do to our planet. However, I do agree that we need to find ways to further humanity as a whole. I also agree that looking at satellite images of the rainforest over time could open peoples eyes up to seeing how bad tree loss actually is.

  • Yes, tree loss is a big issue and it is affecting us in many ways. Without trees we wouldn't have, shade, as much oxygen, recoures and more. We need to start to doing something about it before it's too late. As soon as we start the better we will have it in the future.
