Trapped in a Chimney

A local Tucson, Arizona man locked himself out of his own home. He stated that he had lost his keys. He thought that the easiest entry was the chimney. The 26 year old had gotten to the chimney and was going down into the house when he got stuck. He began shouting for help. After shouting for several minutes his neighbor heard him and called for help. It took four hours to get him released out of the chimney. He was evaluated for injuries, but none were found. The man hugged his rescuers after he was freed.

Questions:

1)If you got locked out, how would you go about getting into your home?

2) If you chose to go through the chimney and got stuck how would you react?

Opinion

I would check all windows and everything and make sure there is another way to get in.

If I did chose that I would yell and scream just like he did. There is only so much you can do stuck in a chimney.

  • Great job Faith!

  • I think that most people have a spare key somewhere outside of their house or have some sort of door code or garage door opener to enter their house. Most people I think can find a less extreme way of getting in their house than climbing on the roof and trying to go through the chimney. I would feel very dumb if I got stuck in the chimney but I would be freaked out to be trapped in such a small space.

    • The garage door opener is the first I have heard of that... Good Idea

  • Hopefully I have a spare key or a way to open a window because going through the chimney would be the last thing I would do. If I didn't have any of those I would call a locksmith and if none of those are available I would pick the lock of my door or finally break the door. I would think I would die because there is no way they are getting me out of a chimney.

  • I believe in having a spare key under a rug or potted plant, so that would hopefully be my first option. The second option would be to call a locksmith and have them come unlock my. I would never chose to go through the chimney because that is the dumbest thing ever and I have a fear of being trapped/stuck in place, so the chimney out. If I did do it though, I would probably freak out and give myself a heart attack.

  • I would check everything else or maybe break a window, i would never think about getting on the roof and going down the chimney. If i got stuck in a chimney i would do the same thing he did scream and yell for help, you cant really do anything stuck in a chimney. i maybe would of also called a friend before i did this.

    • Okay, but if your friend doesn't have a key to your house what help would they be?

  • I would try opening a window. I would not even think about going through the chimney because it is a higher risk of getting hurt.

  • If i got locked out I would probably go for a window and possibly break the window. This is if all doors are locked I would not go through the chimney in the first place so i wont get stuck.

  • I would go through a window, call a locksmith, or get my key from someone else if someone had my key. I would defiantly not go through the chimney. I would probably be frightened and scared and terrified. I would yell as loud as I could. That would be a very scary experience and I'm glad he found help and returned to safety.
