Transgenders and Sports

Joe Biden issued an executive order of nondiscrimanation towards the LGBTQ community. He said, "Childeren should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, locker room, or school sports." So this brings up transgender people playing the sports of the gender they transitioned to. Because we are all aware of the fact that transwomen and women are still built differently. So should transgender people be allowed to play the sports of the gender they transitioned to?

It's hard to know what to allow for the transgender community. If we let them play those sports it can cause unfairness. A news story discovered that some schools are afraid of what will happen if there are more transgender people that start playing sports. People are more worried about men who transitioned to women then women who transitioned to men. This is because men have bigger advantage with the way thier bodys are built so even if they transition they will have more muscle mass. Many schools are scared this wll cause teams to recruit transgenders causing women to not get as many scholarsips.

There is already starting to be some proof of transgender women who are dominating in sports. A transgender women in Conneticut named Andraya runs in Track. Her freshman year she got second in the championship for the 100 meter dash. Her coach said this was "Unheard of" for a first year. Another Transgender woman Laurel Hubbard competed in the pacific games for weight lifting and won two gold medals. An NCAA Divison II natinal champion, CeCe Telfer ran in the 400 metter dash, and she is also a transgender women. The amount of transgender people is still pretty low so imagine what it'll be like when numbers go up.

Is it fair to let transgender people play in the sports of the gender they transitioned to? Why or why not?

Do you think something needs to be done about the domination that is happening from transgender women? Why or why not?

Do you think we could make another league in sports for transgender people? Why or why not?

  • Good topic choice and well done Kara!

  • I think that they should not let transgender people into the league the transitioned to specifically a man transitioning to a boy because they have an unfair advantage to the women already in that sport.  Naturally men are stronger and have more muscle mas than women partially because of the testosturone they naturally produce.  It would be no different then a biological girl taking steriods because the transgender women already has the testosturone boost a steriod would give a biological women. I think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make another leauge for transgenders because it would be more fair that way.

    • I agree because men and women both have different horomones and testoserone levels men tend to be more agressive and if a male plays a girls sport there will be an obvious disadvantage to the straight female players.

  • I believe that people faking what gender they are to cheat is a huge problem and I also realise how certain transgender people want to compete with the same gender they identify as. But the stats show it makes it unfair to the other athletes on a physical level. It sucks that the transgenders are usually faster and stronger but sadly thats how it is in most athletic situations.

    • The scenario where someone lie about their gender to cheat is so rare, and I've literally never heard of that happening. It's even rare for a transgender person to join sports because the population of transgender people is so low, so I don't get where youre getting a HUGE problem from.

    • I totally agree with you that people are going fake being transgender to they can perform better in a sport.  This is going to cause womens records to be crushed by transgender women because as a biological man they are naturally stronger than women.

  • Though we don't have a lot of them, I realise the numbers will get higher. I think if women truly prove they are women then it's okay. I don't agree with one faking it to get medals. If we didn't incude them then they would feel discriminated. I think our world is so much different today and some people need to open their eyes. Our world is changing and everyone needs to except the change with it. Even if someone was a different gender before it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is who they identify now.

    • I agree. People make such a big deal out of transgender people when it has nothing to do with them, same with people in the LGBT community. I think that the real problem is that people are so offended when someone else who has literally nothing to do with them is transgender. People should just respect others and stop being difficult.

  • I think it is fair to let transgender people play in sports because if they weren't allowed it wouldn't be very inclusive towards them, and I think they would feel discriminated against.  I don't think anything really needs to be done about it because they are only playing the sport in the gender they identify as. Although they may have the advantage it would be wrong to not include them.

    • It is not our fault that they weren't born in the body that they feel they should've been born it. So when it starts to affect us we are going to fight back because we want to play sports fairly.
