You probably already know about Joe Biden's executive order stating that their will no longer be discrimination against trans men and women. It says, "Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, locker room, or school sports." You've seen this in a previous article about the sports issue, and the argument I want to bring up is the restrooms. At this moment in time a trans boy, who still has the parts of a girl, can use the boys restroom. So is it okay for them to use their preferred bathroom without the surgery?
The topic isn't really based on fairness, but it's more so about what students are comfortable with. If a student in school transitioned and got the surgery then it's much less uncomfortable for the students of their transitioned gender. At that point they can't really discriminate because they now have the proper genitalia, but if the executive order is including schools then they are 100 percent pointing out that you don't have to have the surgery. This is because kids in school almost always can't afford the surgery or simply because their parents believe it's such a life changing decision to make at such a young age. Now looking into this, we know Biden made it illegal for schools, among many other places, to refuse a trans boy/girl trying to use their preferred bathroom. This points out the problem which is in and outside of schools.
Transmen/women may legally have access to all of these things, but that doesn't necessarily mean the people in these places won't discriminate. For example if a trans boy walked into the male bathroom without the surgery the boys in there could beat the crap out of them and there's not much they could do. Not to mention the controversy that could start on the other hand because someone's uncomfortable with a man who identifies as a girl being in the bathroom with their younger daughter. One thing to think about with this order being in place is that there are going to be issues, and the issues will more than likely revolve around people faking by saying their gay or relate to the opposite gender. Now I agree with this article that says, "Additional restrooms construction should be equality for all without violating the right of genders exposure of opposite sex." meaning they get their own bathrooms without having to worry about exposure and discrimination inside the bathroom. You'd think this would resolve issues, but this is also deemed discrimination. So what do you think we should do here?
Should the trans community be aloud to use their preferred bathrooms? Why or why not?
Do you think that they should have their own restrooms? Why or why not?
What do you think we could do to resolve this issue?

Good topic choice and well done overall Hailey! Be sure to keep commenting on all pages.
I belive that transpeople should be able to use their genders bathroom, however with the problems it presents with, it would most likely be a better idea to install any-gendered bathrooms. These bathrooms would be open for any student to use as long as they have permission from staff. The bathrooms whould have few stalls each with a urinal and toilet, taht way it protects the privacy of students.
I think they should not be allowed to use the restroom they prefer because some radom person could "identify" as that gender and go into the restroom while a child goes in and potentially harm them. That's horrible if a child got hurt in this situation, and it doesn't matter what you "identify" as because you are still the same as you were in the first place.
It would be segregation to make a separate bathroom for trans people, and it's also just weird and transphobic. Trans people deserve to use their preferred bathroom based on how they identify themselves, not just based on if they've had bottom surgery. For starters, bottom surgery is extremely expensive, and not everyone can afford it. Second off, imagine being a man and then a trans woman walked into the bathroom, and vice versa. I would be way more uncomfortable if a trans man walked into the women's restroom because obviously, I don't want a man in there. And yes, I'm talking about an f-to-m man. Most people are in and out of public restrooms very quickly, and most people do not think about who's in the stall next to them.
I don't think seperate bathrooms would be a good idea. Letting everyone go in which ever bathroom is a horrible idea as well. Personally, I think no one will notice if they truly act the gender they prefer. If they are dressed as a male and use a stall many will think he has to realese waste afterwards. If one is to use the restroom in the ladies and minds their own business then it'll be fine. In this society there are people that'll fake their way into situations. However, being with a friend or adult is always responsible. If you can't bring someone along then observe and go in when someone else does. Schools are different, but they do have cameras. There is proof you were in the restroom at the same time. This is also worst case senario. I don't think discriminating is the answer. I believe the best option is allowing anyone that seems they're the gender they say they are in restrooms. If one is to go in without surgery then one can investigate to see if he/she is who they say they are. How will anyone know if they got the surgery in the first place if everyone used a stall?
I don't think trans should be able to use their preferred bathrooms, but only because of all of the problems that could arise. Young children in restrooms shouldn't have to worry about being exposed to the opposite gender. I also feel like this opens the doors to sexual predators. I'm not calling trans people predators, but anyone could claim anything with whatever intentions. It also is more likely to end up badly for the trans person, depending on the people in their area. In my opinion, until they have the surgery they should stay in the bathroom that they biologically correspond with or we should make them seperate bathrooms. Although it does seem a lot like discrimination, which I understand, it's the safest option for everyone.
Transgender people should never have to worry about safety in a bathroom, and neither should others in the bathroom. You do not need to know what private parts they have because that's incredibly violating, not to mention most transgender people have body Dysmorphia. If you are so worried about someone in the next stall then just don't use public bathrooms and leave people alone its really not that hard.
I do not think that they should be allowed to use their own restrooms. I believe this because there is a chance that a male, without female genetalia, could follow a child or woman into the restroom and rape or kidnap them. This can also be the case with women and little boys. Just because they "identify" as the opposite gender does not mean that they should be allowed to use that restroom.
I don't think they should be able to use there preffered bathrooms because I think people will start to just go in whatever bathroom they want even if they are transgender or not. I think to ressolve this issue they should make there own bathroom but that's hard because then every place has to start making another bathroom.
Bottom surgery is very very expensive, and health care agencies rarely cover it in todays world. I think if someone is actively trying to present more masculine or feminine (according to their gender) they should have the full right to use a bathroom their more comfortable in. The idea that it would be wrong for a person to go to a bathroom is ridiculous, and I dispise the thought of someone having to point out their would be assault. Assault is illegal, and if we want to protect trans men in mens bathrooms we need to talk to biological men and make them better people. Also, the statistics on trans women assaulting women in bathroms is legit non existent. Clear your mind of the fog thats been sprayed in there and stop caring about what other people choose to do!!
