In 2017, the Oregon state police set up a school tip line for students to report about possible dangers to the school. While the origonal intent was to seek out and stop school shooters, the tip line helped serve a different purpose. Most of the reports the tip line recieves were more about students who were being bullied, self-harmed, and/or were suicidal. Thanks to the tip line, police were able to intervene and stop potential suicides and provide help. The tip line trends spread across the states, and the same trend appeared. There were always more reports about suicide threats that suspisions of school shooters. These schools were able to help their students and prevent their suicides.

Do you think that these tip lines are helpful? Explain why or why not.
Most definantly. With the rate of teen depression rising and mental health being a big problem in recent times, these tip lines are very helpful with finding students in need so that the police/school board can help them.
Have you ever used a tip line? Would you consider using one?
I have not used/send in a report to a tip line, but I definantly would consider using one to help those people who aren't in the best state of mind/attempting suicide.

I do think that they are helpful because it could make the rates go down on suicide deaths or others that are wanting to or aren't in the mental state or have serious health problems because that is a big one on suicides. I have not ever used and if someone needed help I would use one so they could get the right help.
I definetly think tip lines are helpful. They're beneficial for many reasons. In a state of emergency, such as a school shooter, it gives students easy access to the authorities. You also said that it helped in cases of bullying, self-harm, and suicidal. With you being able to just pick up the phone, and be completely anonymous if you wish, it gives students a sense of safety in the fact that they can contact help so easily. I'm sure that some of the students who called in events probably wouldn't of if they didn't have easy access either.
I think that these tip lines can be very helpful. They are helping to save the lives of teens and many other things. I have never used any sort of tip line before in the past, but if the opportunity came arond where I needed to for the sake of others I definetly would use one.
I agree. These tip lines not only served their intended purpose of stopping school shooters, but they also opened up a whole new door for kids and teenagers dealling with suicidal thoughts, self harming, bullying, harrasment, and many other things.
Yes, a tip line would be very useful and good to have to help prevent suicide and shootings at schools. A tip line would help a lot fo student and help keep them safe.I have never used a tip line, but if i ever needed to I would to help someone that is going through stuff.
I agree that tip lines are very helpful, they are being used to save the lives of many teens. I also have never had to use a tip line before, but if I ever needed to in order to help someone else I definetly would, becasue if there is any way to help someone in a bad situation I want to help them as much as I can.
I think they are really helpful because if someone is thinking that and just don't want to say it out loud they can put it in the box and get help that way. There are alot of teens with mental heath probloms from being so stressed out with a job, school work, and sometimes family. I have not thought/sent something to tip line, but if i knew someone who is not themselfs i would suggest it.
I agree, modern day teenagers are a lot more stressed than in other generations. With everything piled on top of one another, it's a lot harder for people to focus on themselves and their own mental well being. These tip lines provide the perfect outlet for someone who's really struggling.
I think that these tip lines would be very helpful. They helped save a lot of students from self harm, suiside, bullies and tip lines are a very genius idea. I have not used a tip line. I think that if our school would consider using it, it would definitely help the people in our school that have problems.
