Semehca Nunn's grandson, Deonta Howard, was in a hospital after being shot in the head Thursday night. In all, 13 people were. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, but that fact offered little relief.
Chicago is the spotlight for gun violence and has a high probability for homicides. The boy is stabilized, and he is heavily sedated and will have plastic surgery on his face. The people say he is going to be ok.
The gun used was an assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine in the shooting, which appears to be gang-related, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy said Friday.
Why would someone go and shoot a child this young? Who do you think he was really shooting? Also what do you think made him shoot?

Guns and violence are getting so out of control it's just outrageous now. The United States needs to crack down a little bit with these guns. Make some background checks on these people instead of just giving them the gun to go kill people. The man is sick for killing a child that's life just started pretty much. It's a bad environment for these kids to grow up in to.
I think it's horrible that all this violence is going on, and now its affecting the lives of innocent children. If the shooting was gang related I think his motive had to do with some issue within the gang, and he probably wasn't directly targeting the child, but no matter what it's still completely awful and uncalled for.
This is terrible. You really can't figure out the motives of gangs when they do things like this. I wouldn't be surprised if there were drugs or alcohol involved.
This is just one situation of someone just being messed up in the head. A three-year-old should not a target for anyone. It's completely unforgivable. That is just one of the many things that deserves the death penalty in my eyes.
I agree with you on the death penalty but our country can't do that so maybe they have to do with just life in prison.
I agree that no one would shoot someone so incent and little but this was a gang shooting and who knows what goes through their heads.
I don't think the gunman was aiming for Deonta, he was just aiming at anyone. He went to the park and started firing at people. This person that went shooting is probably mentally unstable, or has a problem in their life that they couldn't handle and the anger built inside until they went around Chicago and shot at people. There are many different reasons why the shooter shot at the basketball game. It is just sad to see senseless violence like this, especially in a public place like a park.

I don't know if he was shooting for the young child because in gang violence it sounds like the person showed up to a rival place and started shooting. I don't think he was shooting at the kid I think he just happened to be in the middle of it, but that does not make the shooting ok, and his grandmother is correct that it needs to stop.
