The Tank Man

You may have heard about a man named tank man. But that's not really his name, till today the Chinese have covered up his real name. Maybe one day we can find out the truth of this intriguing mystery. The tank man is an unidentified Chinese man who on June 5, 1989, faced down a column of People's Liberation Army (PLA) tanks on Chang'an Avenue in Beijing who we still don't know what happened after. So what is the truth behind this story?

What was the tank man protesting? He was protesting the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) violent crackdown on Tiananmen Square protesters. On June 5, 1989 the Chinese man (tank man)  approached the tank with his “groceries” in his hand and stood in front of the tank. He later climbed on top of the tank and he got off later. He returned to the ground in front of the tank and some group came and got him and moved him away from the tank.

What happened after he got taken away from the tank? It is believed that after he got taken away from the tank the government killed him and covered up his identity. Another theory is that he ran off after he protested and was never seen again to keep him safe. There are many theories but these are the main two that people believe. Personally I think that these two theories are the most believable. The theory that  I believe in is that he got killed and his identity was covered by the Chinese government after his protest..

What do you think happened to the Tank Man?

Why do you think the Tank Man blocked the path of the tanks?

  • I think the tank man was just someone trying to an activist and cause a problem. There a re many ways to protest, and its concerning to know that someone can take ammilitary tank with such ease. If the government had killed this "Tank Man", why would they hid the indentity from the public?

    • Can you provide a specific example of the Chinese government removing, censoring or otherwise inhibiting the spread of the tank mans identity? If so, how does this correlate to your claims that the tank man is alive?

  • I think the "Tank Man" was probably cut up and fed to dogs within the hour of his arrest. He blocked the path of the tanks in protest so the Chinese Gov. made an example out of him.

    • What made you think that he was cut up and fed to dogs? If they killed him I think they wouldve just shot him or do something else, maybe not that cruel punishment. I agree with you about him being a example to others to protest.
