The Syrian Refugee Crisis

Syria has the worst immigration issues. According to the Refugee Agency more than 6.8 million Syrians have been forced to flee their country since 2011 and another 6.9 million people remain internally displaced. Most refugees have migrated towards the surrounding countries. Germany being the highest non-surrounding country with the most Syrian refugees.

These refugees are people too. They are having to be homeless and fight everyday for not only their lives but also their families. According to the Refugee Agency only five percent of the refugees that escaped are living in refugee camps. More than seventy percent are living in poverty and can not find a job. There are many children living through this also. As Syrian children they have to live through this at a young age. They are losing one-on-one time with their family and not getting to live the life of a child. This can all be traumatizing for the children and can cause them to have panic attacks. This is another health risk to add to the others. According to the Refugee Agency almost fifty percent of the refugees fleeing from Syria are children.

A civil war began and most of the refugees wanted to leave so their families and themselves didn't get hurt. Heavy rain showers, floods, and strong winds are occurring currently in northwest syria. Due to all of the occurrences people are getting stressed. The stress is causing them to have violent outbursts. Some Syrians think these are safe living conditions and that they are strong and can live through this, but, this is not a safe environment. There are many other challenges that are going on other than escaping syria. With all of this they were living through the corona pandemic. They were being pushed into poverty. While living in refugee camps they also do not get personal hygiene opportunities. Some of the refugees would go months without showering. They get tin foil blankets and benches in a building as their shelter.

People are trying to solve the issue. Many people think that adding more refugee camps would solve the issue. I don't think this would solve the issue, I do however think it would help the issue. Some surrounding countries are letting the refugees live with them. Again I think this would help, but I do not think this would solve the problem. According to World Vision they are starting a fundraising campaign to donate and try to build these refugees tiny homes to try and help the issue, and maybe solve it.

Do you think you could live in the conditions that the Syrian refugees did?

How do you think this is affecting the children?

Do you think World Vision’s idea will help solve this problem?

  • Great topic and summary Kinsleigh! I think it was tough this week with all the school topics. People gravitate towards those as they are easy to reply to.

  • That seems really awful whats happening down in syria. I cannot imagine if we had to do that. I personally could not live in the conditions that the syrain refugees did. If i were a child living in that country it would really affect me. Any help to the country would be amazing.

    • I agree with you, I am very glad that the Unided States has independence. I don't think I could live in these conditons either. I would be a very bored and sad child. I agree and think that any help would be benifical to the country.

  • I could never imagine living under these conditions.  It must be horrible for them, we can be so glad that there isn't war in our country. This is probably affecting everyone who is experiencing war and living under these circumstances. The children might suffer from traumas and loosing family members. I think every possible help is needed, so Wordl Vision's idea will probably have a positive impact on the refugee's life.

    • I agree with you, I am very glad we do not have to live under conditions like this. This does effect a lot of countrys with violent outbursts. I also agree with you on the children, the children are not living a happy childhood. I hope these refugees get the help they are needing.
