The State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC) is currently taking applications for its 2010-2011 youth council. SIYAC, which originated in 2001, consists of 21 diverse youth members between the ages of 14 and 20. SIYAC
members benefit from leadership and civic engagement experience, numerous
trainings, and opportunities to network with statewide organizations,
legislators, and youth across the state. SIYAC holds quarterly meetings in Des
Moines and mileage and meal reimbursements are provided for meetings and related
SIYAC activities.
We think youth from your community would benefit from the leadership training and opportunities to serve Iowa available through SIYAC. This year, SIYAC’s 15 youth members engaged in community service projects as
well as training and facilitated discussions on important issues facing youth,
such as underage drinking and the compulsory school age. They also participated
in Team Nutrition health summits and advocated at the Capitol for greater
dropout prevention measures in Iowa’s schools.
We are requesting your assistance to make sure young people, educators, and other leaders in the communities you represent are aware of this opportunity. SIYAC applications are due May 24th. Please
forward this email and application to potential SIYAC candidates in your local
communities. For more information on SIYAC and how to apply, email SIYAC@iowa.gov, or visit icyd.iowa.gov/SIYAC.
Thank you.
