North Korea is finally participating in the Olympics once again, but not on their own. They have joined forces with South Korea to participate in the Olympics. This is something we haven't seen for awhile, but that is not the most extravagant thing. The citizens of North Korea participating in the Olympics or spectating act different than many normal people. They sit in silence, not applauding for anybody but themselves. They never talked to others near them unless it was one of their own. They looked like almost robots said some witnesses. One witness said "I asked them "how do you like the opening ceremony" and I got no answer or even a physical response." A South Korean told this witness who was sitting next to him, "Don't talk to them, it is like talking to a brick wall."

In my opinion, I think this is very different for some people to act like this. It shows no respect to others and realizes the condition there country is in. I find this to be just an odd way to act all the way around and I almost feel sorry for them because of the state of condition there country is in and treated. This just leads to some more thought provoking questions down the road for the Olympics

1. What would you do/say to a North Korean if you were at the Olympics spectating the opening ceremony?

Answer-I am not a shy person so I would probably try to start a conversation but knowing nothing is going to work.

2, In your perspective, how do you think South Korean athletes and individuals feel about these weird random acts?

Answer-I think this makes South Koreans feel very uncomfortable. I think they also realize how happy they are for being the country you live in.

  • Well done Taymon!

  • 1.  I would try to start a conversation with people but as the people have said they won't reply because it is like talking to a brick wall. I kinda think it is childish because it doesn't hurt to talk to people.

2.I feel like it probably makes them feel uncomfortable because they are trying to talk but they are getting ignored.

  • 1. At this day and age, I probably wouldn't say anything to a Norh Korean because they could potentially be dangerous.

    2. Im sure that the South Koreans think that it is odd they don't say anything. Why would they join forces if North Koreans dont even conversate?

    • I don't think they are joining forces, I feel like they are just trying to be the good stand and let them into some things such as the olympics. I believe not all people at North Korea are bad so thats how I think they are looking at it.

  • I would be nice and polite, but I don't know if I would just start a conversation because I can be kind of shy with so many people. I definitely think that the South Korean athletes may think that some of their mannerisms are weird, but they probably understand why.

    • I feel I would be so interested to find the deep roots of how North Korea works that I would try and start a conversation. I think there are a lot of secrets to this country that is bound to be figured out.

  • Well if I had the chance to talk to one of the North Koreans I’d like to know if their enjoyed the opening ceremony, and what their thoughts were on is. However if their not willing to even talk to a South Korean I doubt that I’d get a response being American. They probably think it’s extremely rude of the North Koreans to be acting the way they are. People in North Korea tend to be more polite than we are here in the states and even people over here find it extremely rude.

    • I don't think it is everybody else that makes the North Koreans act like they do. I think its the state of which their country is in that their leader makes them act like this. They are set up for whatever their leader has in store for them.

  • I wouldn't Say anythong because why would we talk to them I don't know how to speak Korean. I think they think it's weird and awkward to talk to them because they just sit there never says anything.

    • Don't you feel curious on how North Korea works though? Most Koreans can speak some english, so would you try and communicate? I am too interested in how this country works that I would try and talk to them.
