The Septuplets are Now 20!

Over 20 years ago, couple Bobby and Kenny McCaurney tried for a while to have a child after their first child. So, they decided to get help. Bobby started taking Metrodin, this helps to concieve a child. Which she did become pregnant. When she went to the doctors office she found out a jaw dropping thing, she was having septuplets! There was a great risk having seven babies. The doctors said they could terminate some of the embryos to ensure the survival of the others. Instead of doing that the couple decided to keep them all. After the media caught on they became famous. They were donated a 5,000 square-foot house to live in. The McCaurneys also got lots more expensive gifts. On September 19th, 1997 the septuplets were all born within 6 minutes of eachother. There was four boys and three girls. Only two of the babies had disorders. Those babies had cerebral palsy. The McCaurneys were also offered a chance on a reality tv show after the kids were born. They turned it down. Some people weren't happy with them for having septuplets saying that it would hurt the environment. It was a roller coaster ride raising the septuplets, but they conquered through. After they graduated they went into different careers. One went to be a carpenter, another a soldier, and lots more. Now the septuplets are 20, and living life to the fullest.

  • Well done overall! Be sure to include personal thoughts/opinions in your summary next time.

  • I think they did the right thing saying no to terminating the embryos. the  people who critized them are wrong for doing that I mean how would they the people feel if they found out they were having 7 babies and some people critizised them.

  • I think the termination of the embroys are up to the parents and the dr. should have no say unlees its for a really conserning etc. I dont think the people who critizised them were right, it wasnt their fault and they shouldn't get heat for it.

  • I think it depends on how old the embryos are. If I were in that situation I would personally terminate a few because raising septuplets would be an enourmous challange. I think the people the critisied them should not of because it is not their life and they shouldn't judge them for trying to live theirs.

    • I do not agree with you in saying that they should have terminated a few. I disagree because I believe that once an embryo is fertalized it is atomatically alive and terminating it would be just  like killing a baby. That is what I think.

  • First of all, I think that it was crazy they had septuplets in the first place. Second, I don't think it's ever a good idea to terminate embryos. I think it's not a good idea to kill a baby that couldn't even live. I'm glad this family decided not to and maybe it wasn't a safe route but they all lived in the end. It did mention they had two babies that were different but they were lucky to have them all live.

    • I agree with you. I think that it is wrong to terminate a baby in any case. Also, it did turn out to be fine in the end, so that was a good thing. Yes, it probably wasn't the safest route, but it worked out in the end.

  • Ehhh, there could be serious chances of maternal death. Even having twins is a big chore I hear. The people critiscizing them for being bad on the enviroment are kind of strange. Why are they complaining about 7 children, and not the already huge population the Earth has?

On the topic of embryo termination, it should be allowed. Not everyone had a choice to have a baby. When they're small enough, they're basically just cells. It shouldn't be used as more than a last resort because there are other forms of protection.

  • I get it if it is to save your life but when there is no medical issue it seems extremely wrong to me to terminate an embryo because it seems inhumane to me to get of something that is going to live. I don't think they were right because they turned out to be right and now they are working and helping the society and doing what anyone else would do.

    • I also think it is wrong, but there was medical issues because with multiple babies in a womb issues can always arise. I also think it is inhuman to get rid of something that is alive/going to live.
