The Mandela Effect

The mandela effect is a popular conspiracy theory where a lot of people have a memory of something but then they look back and find it never actually happened. Theres numerous examples of this theory, one being that 9/11 actually happened september 10th. Another is that popular kids show and books "The Berenstain Bears" use to be the "berenstein" bears. Everyone says it was always berenstein so people think that its proof the mandela effect is real. A lot of people also say curious george had a tail. If you look now he doesnt have a tail and creators say he never did. So people are saying that as well is further proof of the effect beause people say they remember as a kid him having a tail. The biggest example that really kickstarted this conspiracy is the Nelson Mandela case. Nelson Mandela was a former South African president who supposedly died December 5th of 2013. Numerous people however say they remember him dying years earlier in prison. So it had a lot of people really confused and as an explanation they went towards the mandela effect.

There are a lot of different theories, two of the most popular are that we switch from different realities and that there are time travelors. Then there's the people that say that this is all just "false collective memories" or confabulation. Basically, if you dont know what those mean, they pretty much mean "honest lying". A person creates a false memory without intending to lie or deceive others. Instead, they’re attempting to fill in gaps in their own memory. Also, when you recall an event, it isn’t an accurate depiction. I personally think the false memory thing makes a lot of sense and probably is true for a lot of people. At the same time there is a lot of said proof that i cant help but believe are real. I also think its totally possible that there are time travelors changing things. Ive always heard growing up that in the future we are going to be able to travel to the future or past.

Do you believe in any of the examples?

Do you think there's time travelors and different realities(parallel universes) or this is all a product of false collective memories?

  • Well done Makaila!

  • I can see why many people believe in the Mandela effect because multiple examples have been shared regarding the effect and it's causes. However, I don't know if I believe it is true. I think it is likley that many people just remember things in a different way than what they are in in actuality. Also, I don't think there are time travelors.

  • I have seen many examples of the Mandela effct, but I don't think it has anything to do with time travelers. I don't think there is such a thing as time travel (yet). I would agree with the people saying it is probably a false collection of memories. Some of these memories could also come from dreams you remember.

    • I too thought maybe the memories are from dreams. Some dreams can feel really weirdly vivid therefore if a lot of time had passed youd possibly think it were an actual memory. Also yeah time travel if real probably isnt made yet.

  • I think that something like the Mandela effect is real. I find it odd that a big portion of the population thought a certain thing only the be wrong. I don't think there are time travelers or alternate time lines, but I think that there is something that causes this. Maybe it's just widespread incorrect information? Personally, I have experienced this quite a few times.

  • I have seen examples of the Mandela effect many many times, but I personally just do not think that time travelers have anything to do with any of it.  I think that there could be a good possibilty that different realities and time travelers could exsist. We can't really know. We would have to do a lot of research and tests and science to find the truth. But the most believable thing is that they are just a product of false collective memories. But it is still odd that some people have been experiencing the same things.

    • It is indeed very off that so many people have expierienced the same thing. But false collective memories is a very common occurence so it could just all be a huge coincidence. like you said who knows for sure though.

  • I have seen example of the Mandela effect many times but I personaly dont think time travelers have anything to do with it. Even if it was caused by time travelers why would they make such a small change that only few people would notice. The most belivible thing is that they are just a product of false collective memories but it is still really strange that many people have experinced the same thing.

  • I don't believe in the mandela effect personally. I remember certain things like the curnocopia on that fruit brand. I feel like our memory associates certain things with a thing, person, or event. Like the example above about curious george we associate monkey's with a tail therefore when we rememeber george we remember him with a tail even though he didn't have it.

    • I think thats great reasoning for not believing in it. I didnt really think of the fact the we associate monkeys with tails so logically thats why people would think george use to have one.
