The Man from Taured

In 1954, on a hot day in July, a man arrived at Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) in Japan. Alongside his tired travelers, the man was stopped while going through customs. When his passport was stamped, immigration officers noticed something strange. The man’s passport, although looking completely authentic, stated that the man was from a country called “Taured.”
The man was pulled aside by immigration officers. The man was confused and angry, stating that he had made this trip several times before for the company he worked for, and didn’t understand why there was so much trouble for a trip he had taken so many times. He spoke very fluent Japanese as well as many other languages, however, it is said his main language was French.

According to the man, the country Taured was located between France and Spain and had existed for over 1000 years. When handed a map and asked to locate Taured, the man pointed to the Principality of Andorra and was bewildered as to why his country was called Andorra on the map. Both the man and the immigration officers refused to give in whether or not Taured was a country. When the officers didn't know what to do and it was getting late, they put the man in a nearby hotel for the night while they continued to investigate, and so they could bring him in for more questioning the following day. To ensure that the man didn't escape, two officers were placed outside of his room. They both reported that the man never left his room and was quiet all night. In the morning, when the officers went into the room to retrieve the man, he had completely vanished, with no signs of an escape or suicide. No body was at the base of the building, and his window was locked on both sides.  All of his personal documents, such as his puzzling passport and his baggage, disappeared with him.

One theory as to what this occurrence was is that the man had somehow traveled through a parallel dimension by accident, and ended up at Haneda Airport. No one really knows who or what the man from Taured is or if it really happened. However, it is entirely possible that the story of Taured is an urban legend and that a very mundane story could have been embellished each time it was told, so much so that it evolved into the fantastic tale that it is today.

Do you think the Man from Taured was real?

I believe this story may have true elements but was embellished on details. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

What do you think happened to the man?

I, personally, believe that he came from a different parallel universe, and he outlived his stay in a universe and either disappeared or was fazed out of existence. (I know it sounds ridiculous)

What would you do if you were in his situation?

I personally would just fold to the officers and go along with it, although it'd be very jarring.

  • Interesting topic and one that I was not aware of. Great job Julia!

  • I think we all want to believe that it's real, but logically in all reality its just and embellished story. It's just very unlikely that he would come from a parallel universe. If it is real where are the witnesses? Maybe he just had something made for him. I would probaly just fold to the officers and just go along with it as well.

    • I agree with you completely. Although I really want to believe this is a real story, I'm sure it's just an embellishment on a strange story that immigration officers experienced. It's just so much fun to think it's real and to delve into theories we would normally think as 'crazy.'

  • In my opinion, I think that the Man from Taured is not logical. I think it is a story made up by people.  However, I think it would be neat if the Man from Taured is real. If I was in this situation, I would simply just try to get out of that hotel. If you have been caught, you have nothing to lose. You can try your best to escape.

    • Unfortunately, I agree, this is most likely a fictional story, although it would be so cool if it were real and would be awesome to learn more about if it was real. How would you try to escape with the two guards on your doorstep though? I'm just so curious about what's going on with this story!

  • I would like to believe that the Man from Taured is real, but logically, I think it is just an embellished story. I think that he was a man who probably was not legal in the country or legal to fly and had a fake ID or passport made. If I was in his situation, I would probably try to escape the hotel (what could you lose? You've already been caught).

    • I agree with you. Unfortunately, this is probably just a tall tale, however, it's so fun to theorize about it and whether or not it is real. I can definitely see how you could think it was just a fake passport, however, how did he just disappear do you think? I, personally, don't have a clue as to how the man could've escaped without a trace if he was real.

  • I really like these mysteries  and find them very interesting. I think he may have been real since they have a photo of the ID. Maybe the ID was fake and he didn't look close enough, but I don't understand why it would say Taured since it's not a country. WHo knows maybe he was froma different universe and just got mixed up. If I was the man, I would be 100% sure of where I was and where I was coming from.

    • I totally agree. I do find these stories fascinating and so much fun to read about and theorize what really happened. I'm also not sure how the officers should have been able to check if the ID was real or not and how they would've reacted to that.

  • This seems like a creepy pasta and more of an urban legend but seems real if there are multiple witnesses. It seems unlikely that he was from a parrallel universe for they probably would have kept his passport to deep check of it, with multiple cameras of course also. I would have told the officers to take a few days off to regain their sanity
