The good, the bad, and the giant icicle

Europe has been living an giant ice apocalypse.  the reporters are still trying to find bodies stuck in the ice. So far Italy has had ferries and flight cancelled, and they are expecting to close their schools on Monday(yes this Monday). Turkey in the other end, is really affected, the bosphorus was closed to shipping as a heavy snowstorm hit Istanbul. In Poland it has been reported that so far at least 10 people were reported dead. The night temperature in Russia has plunged to minus 30c talk about no school days! Many Afghan migrants died of cold last week and roads have been closed in Greece. The migrants were trying to get away from dangerous conditions ending up in the worst they could have thought. The temperature in Greece has dropped to minus 15c and keeps dropping.  This is affecting many people because communication has been hard making it difficult for families to communicate. For my family it has been hard because we are really hoping that everything will go well and that every single members of my family living in Europe would be save. Even the Greece islands have been affected look at picture below.

1. Do you think the climate change has anything to do with this? why or why not?

2. What would you do if you had family members in Europe at this hard time?

find out more about this heart breaking story

I think that the climate change is playing a really big role in this because there has been  a bunch of reports of the antarctic melting and it has been affecting different part of the world i mean The Greece islands! I feel really hopeless knowing that i can't communicate with my family but i am just hoping that everything will go well and that they will safe.

  • Interesting story! Be sure to proofread your summary as there a numerous errors within it. Also be sure to capitalize words in your title and comment a few more times.

  • I think that the climate change has a big part to do with the weather because even though they are used to getting snow, the temperatures and snow that they are getting now is out of proportion. I think that the climate change as well as green house gases/pollution are melting glaciers, and the green house gases/pollution are covering the sun creating really cold areas. If my family lived in Europe I would be very worried for them and hope that they would be okay.

  • Oh no! This is terrible! I can't believe they are closing their schools, ferries, etc. These people seemed very unprepared though, which probably made matters much worse. I also agree that climate change is most likely one reason for this big ice storm. Hopefully everyone over there will stay inside and safe by taking the necessary precautions. Even though I don't know anyone in the area personal, I am still very concerned and I hope they can fight through the ice.

  • I think climate change probably has something to do with it because the climate is really cold and it gets even colder. I would probably hope that my family members would be safe.

  • I think the climate changes has to do with this as people can't communicate with other people and all the problems that has caused like Bosphorus was closed. I will tell my family to be careful keeping their house warm and stay inside all the time so no one gets hurt and if possible they can go other place for a little bit until the storm thing gets over.

  • I believe that the climate change has a big role in this because before the climate change was a very big thing they never had to worry about it snowing this bad or maybe even snowing at all. If I had family who was in Europe right now I would be very worried for their safety. I would be scared because I most likely wouldn't be able to communicate with them.

  • There are always occasional "ice periods" everywhere, also in Europe. The difference is if people know what to do or not. For example in the north we have very good preparations for snow and cold.In the southern Europe it's more common to not have good preparations. It's understandable because they don't get as much snow and such usually.  My whole family lives in Europe and I'm not worried about them. I think a little bit of these articles might be over reacting to the actual situation.

    • i understand what you're saying and yes we have preparations for snow better because we are used to them but, sometimes things can happen suddenly and there is nothing that you can do about it. Also i am glad that you know that your family is safe but for some part of Europe it isn't the same.

    • i agree with you but think about it. As the years go by, we notice that the weather is getting worst and worst. Even in parts of the world that usually had stable weathers they have been getting affected. with all the scientific information we have gathered over the year our planet is suffering from drastic climate changes due to many men caused events.

  • I think that climate control has a large part in this just by looking at our weather in Iowa with the warmer and dryer winter than normal. If i had family in Europe now I would be worried for there safety. They would have to be very careful because not only can the cold weather freeze people but it can also tear down buildings with the weight of ice and snow.
