The first NBA Game

Now days when people here NBA they think of grown men playing basketball and getting paid lots of money. In the first NBA season players got $5,000 per season. With Lebron James new 2 year 86 Million dollar deal he makes close to $5,000 in just one hour. Yea what he made in one hour they made in one hole year. On November 1 1946, the first NBA(BAA at the time,) was played between The New York Knicks and the Toronto Huskies. And unbelievbly drew in 7,000 spectators to watch the game. In a close battle the Knicks ended up winning 68-66. One crazy fact is the Toronto Huskies put fliers around and if you were taller than there tallest player who was 6'8 you could attend the game for free.

Some interesting rules of the first games were such as, striking at the ball with the fist is a foul. If one team makes three fouls in consecutive (the other team doesn't make a foul between that tie,) then it would count towards a basket for the opposing team. The umpire is the judge of the men and notifies the referee when there is a foul made. The referee is the judge of the ball when it goes out of bonds and when it is in play. So basically theres a referee who calls everything about the ball, and a umpire who's in charge of the men who are playing. The time length of the game is two 15 minute halves with a 5 minute rest time in between. The team with the most goals in the time frame wins if theres a tie then it's the next to make a basket.

I think it would have been very fun to play basketball at this time just to see the difference of basketball today and back then. It would have definatlly been interesting to watch Wilt Chamberlin play because he was so far ahead of others in his time period and he was so good. So it would have been like watching a man amoung kids playing at his time. But if he played in todays basketball league I don't think he would have done quiet as well since basketball has come so far and the athletes that play it.

Questions

Would you have played with only getting paid $5,000 a season.

Would you have done well in playing in these games.

  • I probably wouldn't still play because 5,000 isn't that much when it comes to playing sports. Through all the traveling and time and effort it wouldn't be worth 5,000 dollars. Plus other people would probably make way more which wouldn't be fair. I probably wouldn't have done well in these games just because I am not an atheltic person and don't find an interest in playing sports.

  • Yeah becasue back then that would ahve been quite a bit of money. I do not think I would have done well because I am not the best at basketball because even though the game has probably gotten a lot better from back then they were still professional athletes.

  • yea i think id play to get paid 5 grand every season i mean its money and your playing and having fun just to get paid 5,000 dollars like i mean theres some people who wouldnt do it since they dont like basketball but i would not do well playing the game since i have no idea waht you can do in basketball and waht you can do

  • I would have played just because you could have made 5,000 and plus you could have another job to make more money in order to keep up with what you need in life.  Porbably not because I'm not very athletic and also I am only decent at trap shooting.  But I would still play if I had to.

  • It really depends because I would have to provide for my self and my family and 5,000$ would not be enough money to support them. I would have to get a second job and them be overloaded with work. Im not very good at basketball now so I pry wouldn't be good them.

  • I defintely would not play if I only got payed 5000 a season. Unless if I could somehow work a side job. I would want more money for a good career. I probably would've done well during those games because I feel like basketball has gotten way harder since those times and I feel like I could just out run all of them.

  • Probably not, Im pretty bad at basketball, They are stil better then me so i have no chance to beat them. Even today they are so good at what they do and thats why they do it for "The dough". Although they get paid more today or less 50 years ago its still a big deal to be good enough to get in the nba.

  • I would play for that much money back then, but nowdays probably not. It would be very beneficial to the players making 5,000 a season but todays world there is so many games it would not be worth it at all. They are so much better about payin players in todays world.

  • No I wouldn't have, I bet it was a lot of money back then.  But now players are so much better and get paid better for it.  They had a lot of different rules but now players practice a lot more and lift weights so they are so much better.  They deserve more money even if 5000 was a lot back then

    • Yea I kinda agree but I still think $5000 was a lot for the time because also they weren't practicing that much and didn't have to lift weights so it was a pretty easy job for that amount of money and that time period. This is what I think but others see it differently and think otherwise.
