Now days when people here NBA they think of grown men playing basketball and getting paid lots of money. In the first NBA season players got $5,000 per season. With Lebron James new 2 year 86 Million dollar deal he makes close to $5,000 in just one hour. Yea what he made in one hour they made in one hole year. On November 1 1946, the first NBA(BAA at the time,) was played between The New York Knicks and the Toronto Huskies. And unbelievbly drew in 7,000 spectators to watch the game. In a close battle the Knicks ended up winning 68-66. One crazy fact is the Toronto Huskies put fliers around and if you were taller than there tallest player who was 6'8 you could attend the game for free.
Some interesting rules of the first games were such as, striking at the ball with the fist is a foul. If one team makes three fouls in consecutive (the other team doesn't make a foul between that tie,) then it would count towards a basket for the opposing team. The umpire is the judge of the men and notifies the referee when there is a foul made. The referee is the judge of the ball when it goes out of bonds and when it is in play. So basically theres a referee who calls everything about the ball, and a umpire who's in charge of the men who are playing. The time length of the game is two 15 minute halves with a 5 minute rest time in between. The team with the most goals in the time frame wins if theres a tie then it's the next to make a basket.
I think it would have been very fun to play basketball at this time just to see the difference of basketball today and back then. It would have definatlly been interesting to watch Wilt Chamberlin play because he was so far ahead of others in his time period and he was so good. So it would have been like watching a man amoung kids playing at his time. But if he played in todays basketball league I don't think he would have done quiet as well since basketball has come so far and the athletes that play it.

Questions
Would you have played with only getting paid $5,000 a season.
Would you have done well in playing in these games.
Replies
Yes I would have still played, there was probably money which was alot back then im sure. I would have not done well playing the games, I am bad at basketball right now and im sure the players were pretty good back then.
Yea they were good but not even close to as good as players are in todays age. Also peoples verticles, agility, shooting and other born genes have increased and made players better. But like a lot of people have stated the $5,000 would be nice in that time period.
I would have probably played despite getting paid only $5,000 because everything was cheaper than compared to now, so that salary isn't necessarily that horrible for that time period. I would never play now in current times if the salary was that low, though. I'm not really good at basketball, so I probably wouldn't do that well.
If I lived then and born a male, I probably would have played but not for the money but for the fun and the sport itself. I would probably not do so well since I don't play basketball anymore. I quit in I believe the 6th grade due to an injury I had received during the summer for soccer.
Yes i think i would have still played becuase you are getting paid to play a game and it was probally a lot of money back then. I dont think i would have done well because i dont do well at normal basketball today and it seems to be harder than modern basketball.
If I lived back then I knew that was alot of money I would take the deal because you play a sport as your job. I don't think I would have played well just because I have never played a real game of basketball but it would be nice to be paid while trying it out.
Also it wouldv'e been hard because you are a little shorter so unless your very athletic it's hard for people to go pro in basketball. Or if your like nate robinson who had a crazy verticle. Same as Muggsy Bogues who had a 44 inch vertical but had to small of hands so he couldn't dunk with just one hand.
I Would of played back in the day for that much not in todays money because back then $5,000 was probably quite a bit of money for playing. I think I would have because there was not nearliy as good as players as there is today so i think that i would have done decent and that there wasnt as many rules to follow.
I agree in that time frame $5,000 is a lot of money so they were problably living pretty good and make a lot. Also not so many rules to follow and players weren't as good like you said so it might br pretty easy to play againts most of them.
I would not of played for $5,000 per season right now, but back then I would of played for $5,000 because that probably was a lot of money back in the day. I would have played back in the day because there were a lot of famous people that played baasketball back then and I wish I could meet them.
