Now days when people here NBA they think of grown men playing basketball and getting paid lots of money. In the first NBA season players got $5,000 per season. With Lebron James new 2 year 86 Million dollar deal he makes close to $5,000 in just one hour. Yea what he made in one hour they made in one hole year. On November 1 1946, the first NBA(BAA at the time,) was played between The New York Knicks and the Toronto Huskies. And unbelievbly drew in 7,000 spectators to watch the game. In a close battle the Knicks ended up winning 68-66. One crazy fact is the Toronto Huskies put fliers around and if you were taller than there tallest player who was 6'8 you could attend the game for free.
Some interesting rules of the first games were such as, striking at the ball with the fist is a foul. If one team makes three fouls in consecutive (the other team doesn't make a foul between that tie,) then it would count towards a basket for the opposing team. The umpire is the judge of the men and notifies the referee when there is a foul made. The referee is the judge of the ball when it goes out of bonds and when it is in play. So basically theres a referee who calls everything about the ball, and a umpire who's in charge of the men who are playing. The time length of the game is two 15 minute halves with a 5 minute rest time in between. The team with the most goals in the time frame wins if theres a tie then it's the next to make a basket.
I think it would have been very fun to play basketball at this time just to see the difference of basketball today and back then. It would have definatlly been interesting to watch Wilt Chamberlin play because he was so far ahead of others in his time period and he was so good. So it would have been like watching a man amoung kids playing at his time. But if he played in todays basketball league I don't think he would have done quiet as well since basketball has come so far and the athletes that play it.

Questions
Would you have played with only getting paid $5,000 a season.
Would you have done well in playing in these games.

I definitely would have played making only $5,000 a season. Mostly cause i feel playing basketball isnt about the money but the fun, enjoyment, and satisfaction when winning. Also i think $5,000 back in that time was actully quite a lot. I think i would have done better then than now cause the rules at that time seem simpler and take a lot less time therefore you could put more energy into the game.
Yes I would've probably played back then if I got the chance. Even though $5,000 dollars ins't a lot of money in todays world back then it was probably a lot more. But also I wouldn't only played to get payed, if I really liked the game I would play just because I like it.
Yes i probably would. I would not be good so getting any amount of money, would make me proud. Money isn't everything so I would be happy with whatever amount.
I looked at it and it turns out that $5000 in 1946 is now worth $66,725.38, and the cost of living for a single person in 2020 is about $13,000 (~$974.14). So even back then it was well above the average cost of living, so yes I would play in the old NBA for $5,000 a year.
If I had no other choice than to play I would but it is still not that much money. I am not much of a basketball player so wouldn't have done very well. I think that most of the NBA is way overpaid and they don't need that much money for playing basketball for 19 weeks out of the year.
Yes I would have plaid because back then 5,000 was probably a lot of money and you would get by just fine. I don't think I would have done that great because I am not that tall and I do not play basketball but they might not have been as good back then.
Back then in the 1940's and 50' $5,000 was a lot of money so I would have played for that much money a season. If I would have been able to play in the games I defitionaly would not have done in this games for the simple fact that I suck at basketball. However since it was different then current basketball I don't know if I'd be as bad.
I agree with you I also would have done it because $5,000 was a lot back then I would just do it for the money. I am aslo not very good at basketball but who knows what it was like I might have done alright if the weren't very good also.
Back in the day 5,000 dollars is worth allot more than it is today 5,000 dollars back then could get you a nice car top of the line today that might be a down payment. But If I had the skill and talent to play basketball professionaly I would have played.
Good job overall and interesting topic! I do think you should try to ask questions that aren't yes/no questions. Reprhase them or ask why or why not.
